firstly, i am a huge n00b at notebook computing...

now that that's out of the way, i just ordered the g1s from xoticpc.com and only upgraded the hdd to a 7200rpm one. i was browsing the forums and i came across a thread about the option of upgrading to 3 GB of RAM for improved performance. to be honest, i'm not too worried about the extra GB of RAM for games because i only will be playing source games and bf2. plus, i felt $112 for an extra GB was a ripoff.

so, i am simply curious. in a year or two from now, if i decide to upgrade to 3 or 4 GB of RAM in my notebook, how do i go about doing that? i know it's incredibly simple on a desktop, but what about a notebook?

has anyone replaced the RAM in their g1s for another type? if so, any instructions would go a long way to helping me out in the future. i don't plan on doing it anytime soon, but i have always wanted to know how one goes about upgrading the RAM in a notebook; specifically, the g1s because a year or two from now i might decide to do just that once prices come down and 3/4 GB is the standard.

    anyway, thanks in advance!

Open up the bottom and replace it by taking it out and putting the new ram stick in.

haha, arighty thanks. i was curious because i've never heard of any methods so i always just assumed factory-designed laptops are too convoluted inside to do something so simple. anyway, thanks!

I always thought that upgrading a laptop was hard too, guess not. Now I don't have to worry about getting a better HD right away since I can wait. yay.

Yep, HDD and RAM are usually very simple. No worries for aftermarket upgrades there :)

awesome. i thankfully just barely had enough money saved up to upgrade the g1s' hard drive to the seagate 7200rpm 160gb one. however, with college and a girlfriend and other housing expenses, even the $112 i could spend on upgrading ram could be used elsewhere.

i contacted xoticpc.com and they notified me they can up it to 3 gb of ram if i wanted and i opted out because i figured i can always do it later.

plus, i could ask the really helpful community here for advice on which ram would be best for the g1s. thanks again! =]
