First of all, how customizable is the BIOS for ASUS laptops? Its not a huge deal but it would be nice to know what I'm getting into.

Main question though... I'm looking at buying the Asus U36JC-B2B, mainly for the size and battery life and in several pictures I have seen it with a fingerprint reader, and some pictures without. Does anyone own this laptop (specific part # or something?) with or without the reader?

A little background info... college student, computer based major, need something light to carry, replacing a HP dv6936us. Located in Texas if region matters. I like the USB 3.0 and fast HDD on this ASUS laptop, I do a lot of video editing and file transfers to external drives.

Thanks a lot for any information, I'll be around.

Yes, the U36JC-B2B does come with a fingerprint reader.
For the BIOS, there's not much customization available like with most laptops. What exactly are you wanting to do with it?

I didn't really have anything in mind, I'm just used to using HP laptops so I don't know if there's much difference between the bios on those machines vs ASUS machines. Thanks for the confirmation, I'm pretty much set on the U36 at this point especially since I haven't seen any other 13.3s with usb 3.0 and the fingerprint reader. Graphics isn't a big deal since it'll be fod school mainly.

Well, the BIOS is pretty standard. Change boot priority, set passwords, disable/enable ports and input devices etc. It's not like a desktop BIOS where you can change the voltages and frequencies for the CPU and ram.

Just as a side note, I've owned multiple laptops with fingerprint readers and to be honest, it's more of a pain to use than simply entering your password. Sure, it's cool to be able to show it off to family/friends and such, but after a while I usually just turn it off entirely since I often had to scan my finger multiple times before the laptop could give me access.

Good to know, I'm not too familiar with ASUS' model differences and wasn't sure if there might be a regional change somewhere or not. Thanks a bunch for your help.
