I'm considering to get the Asus z33a mainly because of its portability but I have some questions about the battery. Now, I understand that the 9-cell battery is necessary for true portability but it adds about a pound to the weight.

My question is, does the 9-cell work without the standard 3-cell (take the 3-cell out and put in the 9-cell) or does the 3-cell have to be present for the 9-cell to work? If the 9-cell can work alone, how long is the battery life? And if the 3-cell is removed, how heavy is the laptop with the 9-cell and how much of the battery sticks out the back?

Another question is regarding the display; is it viewable in the sunlight?

First, you gotta take out the 9-cell in order to use the 3-cell. Secondly, it adds a pound, so the system ends up being around 4.3 lbs, give or take. The battery life of the 9-cell is around 6-7 hours.

Not sure about how much it sticks out and if its visible in the sunlight.

The 9 cell sticks out about an inch and a half.... the 3 cell is about 3/4" and that sits flush and the 9 cell is just basically 3x that.

Believe it or not, the best screena for use in the daylight are the glaretype colorshine screens on the W5/W3. All lcds are going to wash out on a bright day and I wouldn't put any notebook directly into the sun. However, I use my W3 outside quite a bit and I can function with it where as I couldn't do that with my S5/M5(Z33).

    How that helps.

The one on the POrtableOne website is correct. The one on the Geared2Play website is the 6-cell one, I'm pretty sure, because it looks exactly like what I have.

Thats correct. The picture on G2P's site is a 6 cell - which isn't directly offered in the US for the Z33... Those number I gave above are correct. The 9 cell sticks out about double that image.
