    Hi everyone

two days ago I bought the Asus K42JC, it's pretty good but I have some questions about it.

Is there an upgrade for the battery? mine is 4400mah and it stays for about 2 hours 10 mins.
Graphics card is nIVIDIA 310M 1GB, according to (speccy) the running GPU is Intel's HD graphic card (see the pic below), how to switch between them?

It will switch automatically since its Optimus....
or you can whitelist some apps on nVidia control panel, under 3d settings...

I get 3 hours and 30 min out of my G73. You sure you have your battery settings done correctly?

Hmmm well the only way im able to get the battery life that I do, is by underclocking my GPU. But there in lies the problem for you. Your gpu should already consume less energy, and has the option for switching to integrated graphics on top of that.

You bought this two days ago yes? Was it used? And in what conditions do you use your battery?

It was brand new, I did the unboxing my self, the laptop was nicely wrapped and so as for the battery, and I use the laptop & battery in a nice condition, room temp. is between 20-35 C.

another question, I found this device on the web (Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Go! USB Sound Card), it's basically a USB sound card, would it improve the bad quality of sound in Asus laptops? especially K42 & A42.

Sorry man, I dont know whats up with the battery then, my last suggestion would be to pull up the resource manager and make sure nothing is "sticking" to the cpu or gpu in the background. While this didnt occur on my g73, my custom desktop the other day was consuming a lot more power then usual, so I looked into the resource manager to find an old printer driver was malfunctioning and keeping my cpu at just over 50% usage the whole time.

As for your question about the sound card, you have to be more specific. It wont help much with the laptops internal speakers, but it would help with external speakers and headphones.

You should be getting better battery. Make sure you graphics drivers from intel and nvidia are up to date from their websites. Make sure that minimum cpu usage is not set at 100%. Also try reducing brightness.

    CPU usage between 0-10%

so I guess the problem is from the battery, I'll take it to Asus today.

    thanks for your help CrappyAlloy.
