....from other threads I've read, does the new W2J still have the slot-loading optical drive, or does it come with a tray-loading with LiteScribe? I preordered from ProPortable (btw, great surprise today), and it said slot-loading on the site. Is this the way its going out? And if so, will we be able to swap it out with an Asus LiteScribe w/ faceplate when it becomes available?

One other thing, specific to ProPortable: does the system come with a full install CD for Windows MCE, or just the recovery CD? I ask because I would like to do a fresh install, and from what I've heard the recovery CD won't work. Thanks for everything.

Slot loading - can't speak to whether you can swap it out.

Justin said the other day that the slot loading is gone and that the W2j only comes with the tray loading. also asus notebooks only come with recovery cds. But there is a way to burn a copy of mce from the recovery cd some folder in there, I never tried it though i saw a post about it about a week ago.

I don't know who's following what here... but Asus confirmed they are sticking with the slot load right now because the lightscribe isn't ready.... the drive isn't hot swappable like the W3 and others, but two screws will let it slide out.... so, althogh I wouldn't waste the money on buying a whole new drive.. yeah, it's possible.

Your specific to PROPortable question isn't to us... but to Asus.. Asus includes a recovery disc set... one is the OS and the other is a thing of drivers... I'm going to tell you right now - don't do a fresh install, it's not needed... I'd delete norton, but other than that... there is no junk and you're just going to waste your time. A huge part of our company was based off NOT doing what a lot of other companies who got huge started to do... and that was make money off **** they installed to bloat up the system.... it made them extra income and all that **** would eventually help lead to the computer to "slow down" after a year or so and people to buy a new system from them...... so, I'm totally against it... Asus is not like that and if they were, we'd have something to say about it.

... i'd just say you're good and honestly don't fret....

Ok, Few months back Asus advertised that the W2j would come with a 1.3 megapixel webcam. So what happened to that? Can't fit it to the screen?

The W2j HD listed in ProPort's sticky is 120GB, but on the ProPort order page it's listed as 100GB.
    Which one is correct?

100gb drive is correct... that's part of how they were able to bring the price down... I apoligize for forgetting that in the news sticky, but the site always supersedes anything else... but thanks for pointing that out.

Asus didn't advertise the w2j as having a 1.3mp digital camera....... a placard at some computer show did..... i have NO proof of that and honestly it shouldn't be a selling point to the system which already has everything else........ if it comes with it, it could be a nice bonus, but nothing more.

Thanks Justin. I think ASUS did the smart thing by getting rid of 20GB to make the price point better. In my opinion an extra 20GB wouldn't sway people either way. I would wager that for me and many others external storage would be a better place to spend the money.

ditto.... the original price included the lightscribe dvd burner and the 120gb hard drive.... so this is better positioning in my opinion... another over $2,500 is a hard sell - no matter how good is it.
