Hi, I was just wondering if anybody could tell me if the g60vx comes with a 64 bit version of windows 7.

Also, how is the build quality on Asus computers? The computer in my sig, an asus z81sp was a poorly made piece of junk. It was a good deal at the time, and the reseller (bto tech) is phenomenal in terms of knowledge and support, but the build quality and design was crap and it had some of the quirkiest problems.

The first thing I had to do when I bought the computer was flash the bios because the one it came with was overclocking the vRAM and causing artefacting in games. I had a gateway laptop for four years before I bought this thing (gateway is seven years old now and still runs like a dream) and I never had to access the bios once. Hell I didn't even know what a bios was until I had to update the z81

It had all kinds of wierd problems too. The wi-fi stopped working on it after six months. I finally figured out that if I accessed the bios after powering up, hit "load setup defaults" and then "save and exit" the wifi would work every time.

The notebookreview.com review described the build as very sturdy, with rigid plastic as opposed to the flimsy kind used on most notebooks. Well, the screen hinge developed a crack after about a year and a half and went up across the speaker. So much for good build quality.

A few weeks before it finally died, the usb ports stopped working. For some reason, hitting the battery lock switch fixed it. My reseller was perplexed.

Then finally, about two weeks ago, the gpu went bad on it.

I took damn good care of that computer. I had a good case for it, which I strapped to the seat when I went driving with it so it wouldn't slide around. I also had it elevated on two 2x3 planks with a fan blowing underneath of it to help keep it cool.

I used this thing just as intensely (mostly for gaming) as my gateway and the gateway is still running seven years strong! I like the g60 but I'm afraid to give asus another chance after the inexcusable experience with the z81. Was that kind of craptacular design specific to that model or Asus barebones computers in general? It gave me three years of mostly joy, but man it was piece of crap.

Edit: In no way was I trashing the reseller. btotech.com is amazing and I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants an asus laptop.

You could simply buy the G60VX-RBBX05 at Best Buy and try it out in the 14 day period of Best Buy. If you don't like it, just return it to Best Buy in that 14 day period. To some people, a simple test run for a few days is all it takes to give you a decision...

Well... I do this with their sound equipment all the time, why would this be any different? What if the OP wants the bigger model (G72GX), I'm pretty sure Best Buy will be fine with an exchange of the G60VX (seeing as the customer would have to spend more money). 14 day period is what I've been always told, especially with the G71GX I bought. I was told that if I have any problems or didn't like it I should return it and they would find another computer to my liking- quoted from the manager who had mine on hold. Didn't take his offer though because I love my G71GX :D!

You should try and read your receipt and/or Return Policy sometime.

Well then, you better tell all the Best Buys they aren't following their return policy procedures because there are numerous members on this website who have exchanged an old model for a new one (Example: G71GX to G72GX) with no problems as long as it was in a 14 day period. There also some members who returned the G71GX (17") for the G51VX (15") with no problems as well in their 14 day period. Some even returned a model a few days of using it because they didn't like it ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=430263), and as mentioned before, I do it all the time in regards to sound equipment I buy at Best Buy (5 times so far in fact). Best Buy DOES sell open-box items (at a discounted price), I hope you know that... Maybe Best Buy is trying to paint a better image of themselves in regards to returns (as long as in a set period), sorry if you have had a bad experience with them...

To OP: The G60VX and G72GX are both great models at a very good price at Best Buy, you can't go wrong with either :)!

    Wow................

    "
    Restocking fee
A restocking fee is applicable in some product categories, unless you are a Reward Zone Program Premier Silver member, the item is defective, or the fee is prohibited by law. The restocking fee charges are:

    * 25% for Special Order Products, including appliances
    * 15% for opened notebook computers, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, GPS navigation and in-car video systems
    * 10% for Apple® iPhones
    "

Never had to pay a restocking fee and so have many others as well, some Best Buys just rather make the customer happy. I know my local Best Buy where I live doesn't charge me return/restocking fees (as long as it's in the 14 day period), they see me come in often enough to know my name as I purchase alot of items from them often. It depends on your Best Buy, some do the restocking fee and some just don't care, that's the point I was trying to bring up.

Anyway, as I mentioned before londez, the G60vx and G72GX are both excellent constructed computers for the budget gamer, so you can't go wrong. Despite what me and CitizenPanda are talking about, if you have any problems /technical issues, take it back to Best Buy. They do have a crappy 1 year warranty in regards to computers but if they can't fix it they will either give you a gift card of the purchase price or allow you to choose another laptop - no restocking fee whatsoever will be applied because the computer was covered under warranty, EVERYONE on this forum will agree to this (besides CitizenPanda), so don't worry. Both computers are excellent gaming laptops ;)!

Unless your State prohibits restocking fees or you are a Silver Rewards Member, you will get hit with restocking fees. Best Buy is the largest Electronics Retailer in the US - they aren't in the business of losing hundreds of dollars every time you return an opened Laptop.

Investors would beg to differ for starters.

The problem here is that you are giving people purchasing recommendations or suggestions based on expressly ignoring the Return Policy that is applicable to most people. They will be out $150.00 (or more) or be stuck with a Laptop they are not pleased with.

Official posters questions have been answered and seems to have gone else where (maybe to go purchase the laptop) :p! This topic has served it's purpose and now is going into off-topic territory.
