Hi,
I have an Asus G1s-A1. I put in the new Hitachi 200 GB HDD and did a clean vista install from the recovery disk supplied by Asus. When it asked for the drivers CD I did a clean boot and have installed a few drivers later. I partitioned the HDD into 2 parts. I have two questions.
1) When I boot the laptop, after the "starting windows vista" screen, the windows logo appears. Then to reach the log-on screen, it takes another half a minute (which I would think is too much). At the log-on screen it says, "you have entered the incorrect password", when I didnt even do anything. I also have only one user account activated on the computer (administrator). However, there is another button which says "switch user". When I click that, I see two administrator accounts! Both of them open with the same password. What gives?
2) After I boot, the system preparation tool starts up? What is that tool for and why is it starting up?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks guys...

Anyone who knows why this is happening?
-
Hmm I don't know why these things happen but the ways of Microsoft are hidden and unknown
How about removing the extra Admin account (if you can even see it from the Control Panel/Users)? That might get rid of the login bug.
I don't know that the System preparation tool is -- google for it. If it's not useful, remove it from msconfig / startup. -
The tool is basically a tutorial of all the new stuff in vista, theres a box at the bottem of it that u can click so it doesnt come back anymore, every new vista install has it, but I have never heard of your 2 admin account problem, seems very weird. If you cant get rid of it, Id say maybe deleting the account and making a new one, if you havnt already set-up everything too much.

Yep, deleting the admin account is a good idea. Be aware, like Nuta implies, you will lose all your Windows settings. Nothing critical though.

Thanks guys.
I finally did run the system preparation tool. I dunno what it did. I think it just registered windows or just validated the copy or I dunno what. Then the laptop rebooted and I was led to the "welcome to windows vista screen"! Then I named the machine and all the regular stuff, set up the administrator account and made the password.
So now it looks like the problem is solved...and vista boots up way faster
Appreciate the help guys... -
Yes, probably it did some initial setup chores. Glad it works now.

Hi.
anybody know how to get the pre-activated key that the manufacturer used.
So that i dont have to register my Vista.
thanks

I don't understand exactly your request.
With ASUS laptop Windows Vista recovery, I don't think you need to enter a serial number.
But I think it does indeed activate over the Internet when you first check for updates etc. I do not believe there is a good way to prevent this without hampering the functionality of the OS. (Microsoft piracy paranoia -- justified if I may say)

Right, I had forgotten about that.
