I'm a bit confused about the specification of the W3V after reviewing the spec on several reseller web sites.

    1. Is the X600 card comes with 64MB or 128MB?

    2. Is the standard 60 GB HDD a 5400rpm drive?

    3. I think the machine comes with two years global warranty, but some places offering only one?

    4. Is there any reseller that will allow me to order the machine with 1 GB memory (I believe the machine comes in 512 from the factory) or a faster/bigger HDD??

    TIA

    1. The X600 comes with 64MB of dedicated video memory, and will use up to +64mb of system ram (which increases as the ram increases).

    2. The 60 GB HDD should be a 5400rpm, but depending on where you are the specs might be slightly different, for example in Australia there is 2 versions one with a 80gb 5400rmp and one with a 100gb 4200rpm.

    3. I believe all if not most Asus notebook come with a standard global 2 year warranty, the place you saw with 1 year might mean that the shop will do the warranty process for you within one year instead of having you to contact asus support directly.

    4. I'm not really sure about that, the ram is easy to upgrade. This really depends on the reseller.

Sorry for going a little off topic here, but viper8548, you mentioned that there were two versions in Australia. Could you tell me where I might find these? I am interested in Asus notebooks as well, but just haven't been able to find them anywhere.

    Thanks

I guess an important caveat is that I am assuming you are in the USA. If not, you might want to mention it and maybe someone else can be of more help.

You can check the existing posts for information on recent "changes" being made in the stock configuration to the W3V. Check out the below post:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=30736

As you can see, Asus seems to have made some calculation as to what provides the best "bang for your buck" while keeping to an approximate price point.

As for further customization, from looking on this site, there appear to be several resellers who will modify an Ensemble unit, in particular the W3V. I believe this will void any warranty with Asus, which is something to consider of course. The ones I know of are:
Portable One (they rebrand their version the "MX")
    www.portableone.com
    Star Tech
    www.stipc.com
    A Gear Notebooks
    www.agearnotebooks.com

You can check a site like www.resellerratings.com to get some opinions on their customer service.

i believe that W3V in North America come with
    1. 64MB ATI x600 hyper memory
    2. 5400rpm 60GB Toshiba HD
    3. 2 yrs global warranty

might be different area and country to have different specifications.

Yeah, that's the problem. I know of all the resellers in America. But yes, I live in Australia. Hence why I am having so much trouble finding these Asus laptops online. Thanks for the update on the stock configuration changes :) .

    Anyone have any more suggestions?

for australian buyers, check out either www.staticice.com.au or www.ausprices.com.

both will give you the best online prices and where to buy. otherwise go to the australian asus website and click on the "where to buy" tab.

i checked from the dealer, they said that all the new w3v(w3va) come with 100GB 4200rpm HD, but do not come with a carrying bag and cordless optical mouse and provide 1 year global warranty. Asus change the package for the new shipment.
