May i know the battery life of W3V with WiFi turned on? Please do specify the power setting as well.
Finally, will like to ask about the heat issue. Is it bearable?
-
On a full recharge using email/office mode I get generally just above 4 hours (like 4hr 6 min) using power4gear and CHC. This is the standard 8cell battery that comes with it.
The heat is noticble on my lap after an hour or so (ac or battery), but I usually put it on a hardback book, it provides better ventilation as well. The right side palmrest gets only warm to me when on AC, using email/office I don't notice it. Some people are more sensitive to heat then others, it just depends on you. -
I suggest uninstalling power4gear since if you use CHC or rightmark power4gear is essentially just a fancy program that changes screen brightness. CHC is far better for controlling your cpu speeds and improves battery life significantly. With that said, after undervolting and having screen brightness on the 4th of like 16 ticks with wifi on, the battery meter shows around 4 hours and 20 mins.

wowow... that is so much better than what even ASUS says..
-
I think Asus claims 4-5 hours and when you first start up the computer from the factory the battery meter will probably read around 3 hours. Be warned that it takes some tweaking to get it up to 4 hours.

Completely stock I get a little over 3 hours with Wifi on, surfing the net, and AIM on (for example I have 65% battery left and it claims 1h 54m left). This is with screen brightness at half. If you mess around with CHC or in the bios with speedstepping, 4 hours is easily obtainable and I have seen people on here get 5 hours.

I'm sorry, but i am kinda a noob with Asus laptops. My only laptop so far is a Toshiba.
What does CHC stand for? And how does it help to improve the battery life? -
CHC is Centrino Hardware Control, it is a problem that is used to control CPU frequencies and other aspects of your computer. It can be used to undervolt which is almost essential on a w3v because it improves battery life but more importantly significantly reduces heat. Also, screen brightness profoundly affects battery life with the difference between max brightness and min brightness being about an hour of battery life.
