I know that the screen resolution is different with the X1 compared to the A1 and A2 model, but are the screens the same dimensions? And why do the laptops have different screen ratios?

no...the x1 model has a 15.6 inch screen because it has a true widescreen aspect of 16:9

    15.6" low res 16:9 = X1
    15.4" high res 16:10 = A1/B1

the X1 model is much worse the quality and res are lower and why would you want 16:9 on a laptop. The only thing its semi good for is widescreen movies so you wont get black bars on the side but 95% of your time on your laptop is probably web surfing, gaming, documents and things like that wich make use of vertical resolution. 16:9 just means more scrolling for you to read things and less resolution to work with and while it may eliminate the black bars for a 16:9 movie, it will just make them larger for older 4:3 movies and games so its just a trade not an advantage.

:/ hmmmmm I was looking forward to getting this laptop (G50-x1) this weekend but I was hesitant about it because of the screen on it had a 16:9 aspect ratio, and Vicious has a good point about it. The only problem is that I'm only 17 in high school with no job because I'm in so busy with school actvities (even during the summer :( ), thus I can't afford the A1 model which I want soooo much. What should I do? Wait another half a year or more to save money for an A1? I was also considering this----> http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8907043&type=product&id=1213046783376
Very inexpensive but is a little less powerful than the ASUS.

Well from what I see around the forums the G50V-X1 buyers are quite happy with their purchase. So make sure you know all the differences (screen, CPU, warranty, HDD, whatever else), and consider if you can live with them. If you think you can, then why not? It's not mandatory for everyone to get an expensive computer. :)

I can't compare it with the Gateway, because I know nothing about Gateway...

It depends what you're going to use the laptop for. If you're going to use any cpu intensive programs, i'd say save up the money for the A1 version, it's more bang for your buck. Dual hard drives, better resolution, asus's warranty(The best buy one is horrid) and you get the better cpu.
