By "stuck" i mean where you have nothing plugged in to your sound ports, yet your laptop seems to think there is and won't play sound through the speakers/anything.
This fix will set everything (speakers, headphones) to "On" all the time. This is fine with me, and should be for you if you're desperate enough. I know this works if the headphone switch is broken, but I have nothing that uses SPDIF, and as such can't verify if this works with it.
Start>Run>Regedit>Edit>Find>ForceDisableJD>Right-Click "Modify"
Backspace over the last two values, and set them to "01" without the quotations. Hit "Okay" and exit. You might have to restart your laptop.
To reiterate, this fix worked for me when my headphone switch broke and no sound came through the speakers.
