I'm assuming a 9-cell battery is a bit bigger than the normal 6-cell battery for the G51. About how much bigger is it? Anyone have a picture?

It sticks out a little bit, here's a crappy pic of my G50. The shiny thing is a quarter just for size reference.

That doesn't look too bad. Does it only stick out the back and not the bottom? I think I've seen a few batteries do that.

Nope, only out the back. If you really want to get an idea of size and weight take your 6 cell and duct tape 3 AA batteries in series to the back of it and then use your imagination to picture what a thicker housing for all that is like (or just add a lot more duct tape).

That's basically what a 9 cell is. You already have 2 rows of 3 batteries each (2 parallel rows of 3 batteries in series) and a 9 cell makes it 3 rows of 3 batteries each. Each lithium ion battery is basically a AA battery but has like 2.5x the voltage.

Thanks for the information. :) I think I'll try seeing if I can get a 9 cell battery with my next laptop purchases (hint: G51J).

No problem :) Best of luck with your purchase! The G51 is a powerful machine.

For the G51, the 9-cell battery should give 3 hours.

    A 9-cell battery has 3 more cells, or 50% more than a 6-cell battery. Meaning 50% more battery life. 50% of 2 hours is 1 hour, so 3 hours with a 9-cell.

sounds like a good investment. its just that too bad it won't fit in my backpack or my sleeve with the battery in.

I get about 2 hours (~110-120 minutes) from my 6 cell which is almost 10% worn, and the new 9-cell I got on ebay gives me over 3 hours (190-210 minutes). I have two hard drives, a 25W CPU, and my GPU's idle voltage is 0.68v.

The battery that is used on a laptop battery is actually much bigger than an AA,search for 18650 battery.

Wear level is how much capacity the battery stores compared with its oroginal capacity. 10% wear level means it now stores 10% less power than it did originally. Wear happens irreversibly over time, usually by the time you get to 300-500 charge and discharge cycles you reach 50%+ wear level.

I'm checking using Everest but you can probably find other battery utilities elsewhere.

    ASUS - Notebook battery ( high capacity ) - 1 x 9-cell 7200 mAh

You could probably also get it direct form Gentech.

I have a G50 and G51. I appears the batteries are identical except for the mAh rating. There should be no difference except for capacity ? I'd like to swap em over, and though I think I know the answer Im making sure, lol.

    Thanks.
