    Hi everyone,

I'm wanting to upgrade to a Z71v (I love the Z70v, and would go for it, but I just can't justify paying more for something that performs less) from my M3NP. I just wanted to know if I could transfer all my parts to it (I would be getting a barebone). As you can see in my profile, I have DDR1 not DDR2 and a Duron, not a Sonoma Pentium-M. Thanks a lot.

z71v has ddr2-4200 ram and the duron chipset will never fit a sonoma platform :(

hmmm... you could tranfer in your hard drive and your wireless card, even though I heard at one time that there are some compatability issues with the 2200 card that are fixed with the 2915. You'll have to get PC2-4200 SODIMM DDR2 RAM, because your current memory won't fit in the DDR2 slots on the Z71v. In addition, you'll need to get one of the 2 TSST optical drives that is made for the system (either the DVD/CD-RW combo drive or the DVD+/-RW burner). And of course, you'll need a Pentium M processor (preferably one of the newer ones with processor numbers 730, 740, 750, 760, 770, or 780)

Thanks for the help. I just found out that the Z71v has a dip switch to go from 400MHz FSB to 533MHz and that people have been putting in Duron Pentium-M's and got an easy overclock. So my 1.5GHz Duron will become a 2GHz Sonoma! The only disadvantage is I can no longer run it at 0.944v and have to put it to a higher stock voltage (obviously to compensate for the 33% boost!) However the stock voltage is 1.388v, so I have plenty of room.

However, thanks for pointing out that the slot on the Z71v is only for DDR2 modules. I guess I'll have to sell my 1gb of RAM and my Intel 2200bg wireless card and get the new stuff. Thanks a lot for the help guys. I'll let you know what happens if I do this upgrade soon.

Do any of you know if the barebone Z71V comes with a traveling drawer (like the M6's and W3v's do?) Thanks.

On the Z71V, if you put in an Intel Pentium-M 1.7 400FSB, you could overclock it to 2.26 533FSB.

That is what I have now. It runs great and yes the stock voltage is 1.388 but you have some room to lower it a tad. I was able to lower mine down to 1.292. But I push it back up to 1.308v.

    Run perfectly stable.

At min speed, I could push it down to 0.718v. Which is pretty good.

Performance is awesome, given I had a 1.86 originally.

As for temp, it only increase my overall temp by 3-4c only.

Travelers drawer? What's that? I came with a notebook bag if that is what you are asking.

    See my review in sticky

    Ha Ha Ha

Travellers drawer is an empty dummy in place of the optical drive :D

It comes in z70v, I think.
