I'm looking for a smallish (12" or 13") QUIET Asus laptop. Which model you think I should look at? I love the W7s, but looks like it's loaded, which usually means, hot and noisy... maybe the W5?

my cousin has the W5 and it's pretty darn amazing
i can barely hear it running. it gets kinda warm in your lap, but if you can bear that, it's a great laptop.

thanks bboyneutral. that's why i was thinking the w7 wouldn't work, usually heat equals a loud fan. is this not the case? what was your previous laptop? the other lappie i'm considering is a thinkpad t61, which i think is supposed to be pretty quiet....

the t61 is pretty quiet, though much heavier than the w7 or w5.

As bboyneutral said, the W7S is actually pretty quiet. In an air conditioned room under light usage (surfing the new, word processing, etc.), you basically can't hear it at all.

There's always a downside though, given that noise and heat are inversely related. The quieter it is, the warmer it gets. The W7S gets warm on both the bottom and on the palmrest, but never does it get uncomfortable (even under full load). The exhaust vent can get really warm, though you won't burn yourself if you put your hand over it.

As far as noise goes, that's pretty much the last thing you'll hear any W7S owner complain about. Obviously the optical drive can get noisy, but then again what kind of optical drive isn't loud?
