I posted this in the Notebook Mod/Upgrade section, but wanted to make my fellow Asus aficionados aware of it.

If you need new RAM, NewEgg is selling Kingston 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC4200) for $98.99 per stick. That's down from $115 per stick just last week.

I bought two sticks for my next Asus "preciousssssss"! :)

Thanks for the tip. I don't really need to pump up my machine for about 6 mos, do you think there's a chance it will go down much more by then? Haven't followed notebook RAM prices to know what the trends are - if there's no way it'll dip down below, say $80, might as well order it now...

Do i need 2 sticks of 1gig to run dual rate? I heard your ram has to be exactly the same, does that mean i wont be able to use the existing 512mb with the 1gig at dual? So should i just buy a 512mb stick?

You would definitely need either 2 sticks of 512mb or 2 sticks of 1gb. I know all specifications of the RAM need to be the same; however, i'm not sure if it must be 2 identical sticks from the same manufacturer.

Thank's for the tip I wanted to add 1GB to my W3v.

I was thinking of buy another 512MB stick to dual channel too. But then I relized that If and when I want to upgrade again. The one 512 Stick will go to waste, or maybe even both of em. Just my opinion, nothing more :)

    unlikely
from what i understand, the price of ram is pretty low right now, so chances are prices will go up in the next couple of months.
