I've ordered an Asus W5A 740 (with 512MB ram) where 256MB is on board and 256MB is in a slot thingymygiggy.

The processor is Intel Pentium M 1.7, 533mhz

And the RAM is stated as 400mhz

Do these two 'mhz' numbers relate to each other?

Meaning, when i buy ram for upgrading, do i buy 400mhz or 533 mhz? or do they both work?

    please help me

You know, I'm no expert (and Justin is probably a better guy to answer this question...) but if the onboard ram is 400 mhz, then there is really no point buying the 533 mhz stuff. However, both WILL work, and if prices are similar, buy the 533. If the onboard ram IS 533 (can't answer that for you...) then you need to buy the 533 stuff, or else you will be slowing down the rest of the ram when you insert the new sodimm.

    Cheers,
    -M.

I also need to upgrade my memory, I have a ASUS W5Ae (with 512 onboard). Can someone please tell me exactly what kind of memory I should buy ? Is it SO-DIM DD2 1024 i should buy ?

I also just realized that if the SO-DIM DD2-memory is the correct memory I also have to choose between:

    - "Crucial DDR2 SO-DIMM 1024MB CL3 Non-ECC,1.8V,128Mx64,200p DDR2 PC2-3200"

    or

    - "Crucial DDR2 SO-DIMM 1024MB CL4 Non-ECC,1.8V,128Mx64,200p DDR2 PC2-4200"

The differance being 3200 or 4200. Anyone who can help me ?

Since the W5's onboard memory is DDR2 400 -- you're best off going with the the PC-3200 (400mhz)....... Both will work but the 4200 (533) will get clocked down to 400 anyway. Since the latency of the 533 is 4 and the 400 is 3, why not just pick that up even if they are both the same price. At the same time, they're probably the same price and will you ever notice the different latency of the ram on your w5? Probably not...... do pick what you want....... but personally I'd go with corsair.

So will the gig of ram work on the W5a? Will the W5a recognize all 1280meg of ram be recognized?

Yes.... I can tell you as long as you use a corsair stick and the stick isn't physically damaged.... I will guarentee it.
