Hello,
I own a Asus Z96j purchased from MilestonePC. It was purchased in late August and no longer boots up. I need to RMA it as the lights will not even initiate when it I attempt to plug it in, or it is turned on!! Anyways, has anyone had any experience with an RMA for milestone PC. I did not purchase the additional 2 years of warranty; however, it is still under a 1 year limited warranty, what does this mean? How long will I be without my laptop? (I am currently on a 1.2ghz AMD thunderbird with 512mb of ram I had lying around, It is running office 2007, so, as you can imagine, I wouldn't mind getting my machine fixed and such as soon as possible...) I have sent an email, but I do not have a response.. I really need a better computer for what I have to do before the end of the month, should I purchase another machine and then resell this one when I get it back? Will I get a repair, and at what cost? I have a rather limited budget and my final 6 courses (regular load is 5) of my pre-law undergrad degree (any old degree but a certain academic standard is needed...). As you can imagine, I am extremely stressed out, and money really is not an issue at this point in time.... (I would like to spend a total of 500 dollars though, I have thought of purchasing a macbook with a student discout, trying to get my z96j repaired and then selling it to attempt to make up some of my massive loss of funds...)

WOW...calm down!
Why don't you wait until MilestonePC responds to your email. You might be able to call them tomorrow, and they are active on the forum.
I don't mean to be a jerk, but no one can really tell what's wrong with your laptop until Milestone (or someone else) looks at it.
I would not do anything rash, especially if you are on a limited budget (or don't want to spend much)
It's harder than it looks to sell a laptop, especially a used laptop.
In summation, I'd wait and see what your reseller says before panicking. -
Best to ask them, as we aren't them. Send off an email/PM/phone call and ask.
As for the notebook, I'm not sure whats wrong with it, will it boot up at all? Any attempts to figure out whats wrong?
As for it being fixed, it depends where you are and what shipping method you use. As well, the problem itself needs to be identified. The repair shouldn't cost you a thing but the shipping there I would imagine.
In addition, if you are in dire need of a notebook, see what your school can do, I know mines lends out D280's on a frequent basis(like 300 of em) for 3 days, and if you ask, you could probably borrow one for a prolonged period. -
Sorry,
I am just very anxious. The people around me say I am taking this quite well. I live in a semi-remote area and it took me 6 hours to locate a some sort of device that allows me to transfer the information I needed off my laptop HD and I am rather behind. Any who, I was just trying to gauge the time it is going to take as I really feel odd without my precious laptop! Thanks for your comments, I really hope it will only cost the price of shipping, I have a fear that something is not covered, or the one thing that is not covered is the problem! -
You're taking this as an inexperienced customer, and you're asking the right questions imo. Don't worry; milestones is in these forums, and is good people. I had the same feelings when my supposed a8jp order was sent around the states due to an incorrect address; a whole month went by until I could confirm the RMA and order an F3jp, instead, which I'm quite happy with. It's nice to hear that money's not the issue, though; then you'd be in quite a pickle.

Thanks,
I haven't received a response yet, so I suppose I will be calling in the morning; is there anything I need in particular? As for the money, I meant paying for shipping wasn't an issue; however, if parts will need to be replaced at cost, I may have to make some hard decisions! -
as long as the problem isn't due to accidental damage, you won't pay for anything if it is still under warranty.

i would consider sending it back directly to ASUS, i tried twice. and it worked very well. I got confirmation and overnight shipping (free) next day. and their promise to fix everything that i had mentioned. which i think their customer service is one of the best.

Wow this is a shot in the dark
But try to power it up from the ac adapter ( make sure its working first) with the battery removed.
There is a fuse reset aparently from the battery.
Why I say this is 12 hours ago I was sure my laptop was dead lol it wouldnt respond to the power button at all. In fact it died in mid action, and wouldnt power back on.
What happened was some sort of fuse in the line from the battery. And it resets by going to ac power with the battery removed. -
I can feel your pain. I'm in medical school now and I understand how frustrating it can be to not have your laptop when you need it. That being said, I wouldn't rush off and buy a replacement laptop just yet - It'd be an impulse purchase, and you would be doing yourself a disservice purchasing it in that context. Also, Why consider the switch to the Macbook? If it's just for the discount, I'd say it's worth the extra money to stay with windows, which I'm assuming you're more familiar with. I'm not sure about the resources of your school, but some campus libraries will have laptops available for loan, free of charge. If you haven't looked into that yet, it may be a good avenue until you get this resolved.

I didn't know where to post this, but, MilestonePC was great with my RMA. It was easily the best experience I have had with a company of any size!
