Has anyone been able to get Readboost working on Vista with an SD Card? I have a W3J and have updated the device drivers for the card reader but still it says the card does not pass the tests.

I tried the same card in a USB card reader and it works fine!! This leaves me to believe its the drivers. Does anyone have any input on this???

Yes, its possible but you need the ultra speed SD cards for it to work. Your free after rebate or budget cards won't work (I tried!)

Apparently Vista's final release should have less stringent standards.

But why does this card work when used via a usb card reader and not the SD slot?

What leads me to believe is that Ricoh drivers and firmware is what drives your Card Reader in the laptop, while using a USB Card Reader, the USB drive just does the work, since Windows has those drivers.

So without Vista, when you were using XP everything was ok with the Card Reader?

I had a bit of trouble getting Vista to recognize the card reader on my W3j, but after re-installing the drivers a few times, I got ReadyBoost working with a Ridata 150x SD card.

I think this was the driver that I finally ended up using:
    http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/7090/
That's v. 2.15, while the one on Asus' site says v. 1.0.1.04 (for the W3j)

The MMC reader still shows as having a problem in Device Manager, but I don't use that, so I just disabled it.

I'll check when I get home if I still have the file I d/l'd. If I still have it, I'll put it up and send you the link in a PM. Look for it in a couple of hours...

I downloaded the 2.15 driver from ASUS and it totally made the SD Slot useledd in Vista. I am back to the stock driver + the new Ricoh update from MS and all is well. I STILL cannot get readyboost to work with my SD card though

This might be what I need. It turns out the sd card reader and the firewire are controlled by the same ricoh chip

my firewire is going at 40 mb/s so Im looking for a driver update.

Here are the most up-to-date drivers I could find for the Ricoh card reader, v1.01.11 released 10/17/06, so you are welcome to try them if you want,
