I have been noticing heat on my V6j quite a bit lately. I was in Texas for 10 days, and I didn't notice any heat trouble, not even that the palm rest was warm above the hard drive. Temps used to be 30 C for the HDD, and 45 C for the HDD. Today, I was using it and the CPU was running at 65 C and the HDD at 45 C, with excel up and plugged in. The processor was not running more than 10% (average). The laptop was on a desk and was getting plenty of cooling. The fan is running fine, plenty of air flow, I haven't touched the cooling system, and this seems to be a change over two weeks. I haven't been monitoring the GPU temp, but it has to be similar because they are connected via heat sink. I think the HDD temp increase is due to the massive heat increase in CPU/GPU temp. The casing above the keyboard (by the power button) was HOT!!! to the touch, which I have never even noticed heat there before. I am pretty concerned about this, temps have been way to high lately, to the point where the computer is too hot to keep on my lap comfortably, which was never a problem before. What do others think? Is it bad, or am I paranoid. Thanks!

Try opening it and thouroughly cleaning it. Your temps are still in the safe zone however. Have you installed anything new?

It is as clean as they come. I made my self promise when I spent the money 3 months ago that I would take care of this computer, and I have done pretty good. The cooling system is clean, the fan is running, and there is very "healthy" air flow. The only thing I installed was a second stick of RAM, but the temps were on the hike before that. If that could create this kind of temperatrue increase, I will look into that further, but it just didn't seem like it would do it. Thanks for the reply!

Any monitoring software etc you installed lately? Maybe something's causing conflict?
You probably already know that SpeedFan can cause problems with certain GPU's and even fans to stop working... that happened to me once after Speefan was installed.. the casing near the power button was HOt like yours when I touched it... but then my fans weren't working.. yours are still working correct? -

No, I haven't installed any new monitoring software, I am just using NB Probe, which came installed on my V6j. The fans are running just fine, there is plenty of airflow.

Hmm.. maybe email your reseller and tell them about your findings... they might be able to suggest something. Dunno what the cooling's like inside.. maybe more than one fan, and one's loose or something? But the casing getting hot does sound like a serious problem..

I might email Justin, but he will hopefully see this and have some input. There is a single fan and a single heatsink in this computer, so I don't think anything can be loose. The HDD has goten hot before, but never near the power button, and a relatively sudden 20 C increase in temps is scary - even playing full 3d games, the CPU would run cooler than that before, but now excel is all it takes to get the processor hot.
Really Hot V6j
