    Hi

I would really be happy if someone has come across a quick fix for this very common problem, well basically whenever i plug in my headphones the onboard sound does not turn off and i get sound from the headphone socket and the speakers on the laptop, i realise that many people with asus laptops have had this problem due to VERY CHEAP audio chips in their fairly expensive laptops,

But while doing some searching i have come across people who have tried to install Linux or other operating systems and have had the same problem but they fixed it and it was not a hardware problem.

Please does anyone know of any quick fix's or do i have to send my laptop in, because i have heard that when people receive it back from asus they have had their laptop scratched up and stuff, and i really dont want that to happen to mines.

I also realised something weird, the day i found the problem , i turned on the computer and then went to plug in the 3.5mm speaker cable to the laptop and suddenly i saw this little information bubble saying that i have plugged in a jack, this has never happened before and its very suspicious also the spdif connection turned on, as i saw the red light, and i knew something was wrong.

sorry for such a long message and if anyone has any idea's please let me know

    Thank you in advance

One person here solved his problem by disabling spdif output, but that was about it. No one else managed it that way. I can't find the link just now, but it's somewhere there in the asus forum. The only proper solution is to have the audio dj replaced by asus. BTW, how old is your notebook? This problem usually shows itself after 6 months or so... Am waiting for it to raise it's head on my machine :D.

this notebook actually has a known faulty audio dj. contact asus directly. i have not heard about this person that solved the issue by disabling spdif. i didnt even know it was possible to disable that becuase it is not enabled until you plug spdif receiver in.

I saw it on the forums here.. His spdif light came on without anything plugged in, and his onboard speakers didn't mute. I'll try to find the link. But yes, the only true solution is to replace the audio dj. BTW, how come it's a problem in all F3J's, even those manufactured after the problem became known? And does it mean that the old faulty audio dj is replaced with a new faulty one?

i do not belive the f3jp suffers the same fate. it does not mean that they will replace with a faulty one. i am pretty sure asus pulls them from known good units otherwise it would be counterproductive and cost too much money

    Hi

I also tried to disable the spdif output in the realtek hd manager in the control panel, but this did not fix my problem,

And i hope you are right when you say they will replace the audio dj with one which will not have the same problem. Maybe i will ask them when i send my laptop in, because i only used the jack about 4 times as i said previously, and it lets the overall quality of the laptop down.

    That's a good news, if F3Jp doesn't get the problem. I've got one.. :D
Anyway, I mentioned this since people still continue to face this problem, even though it's been almost a year since the F3J series came onto the market.

Hi, patel7 I'm portuguese. I've had exactly the same problem as you did. The same same red light and the warning of connected cable. Since then the sound comes from both board and phones. This occured yesterday and I bougth my asus in october 06. Just do the math: 6months. Does anyone knows how much time the company takes do solve a problem like this?

    sorry for my english

    thank you

    hi edgarmesquita

i am not too sure if you mean, if you meant how long asus will take to repair the laptop when you send it to the service centre, i believe they replace the audio dj, this could take a few days once you have sent the laptop in.

yes that's what I was talking about. Only a few days..uhmmm ok. I think I'll ask them to keep this option after they solve the problem so that once in a while my colegues can listen to my music... lol

    thanks

    Hi ,
    is there any news?
    I've experienced the same problem!!
    I'm getting crazy!!
I'm sure it's a software problem: on win xp I can hear music from speaker and headphone when jack is plugged in... on linux I can hear music from speaker only if headphone jack is plugged in..in this case i can hear sound *only* from speaker...it's amazing!!!!! :(
