Bought a g50vt-x5, best buy edition. It has an IR port on the front, it also has the antena plug on the side... I assume it dosnt have a tv tuner built in, but under device management -> Human Input Device, there are two listings:

    ITECIR Infrared Reciever (EC)
    Microsoft eHome Infrared Tranceiver

They both state they are working properly... so shouldnt I be able to use a remote on this computer? I have searched and searched and have found no definative answer.

Yeah, you can use an infrared remote control... in general there are two types, media center compatible and others. The infrared receiver is located right next to the wireless switch on the front left side of the case.

You have to install drivers for it if it isn't a generic media center remote. It could also be a RF remote instead of IrDA, I'm not familiar with the HP remotes.

it looks like its IR, has the little dark plastic strip that looks like the transmitter, so are we thinking installing like the tuner drivers from said hp laptops?

I'm not really sure... hopefully you can find a driver for the remote only. The tuner drivers will probably not install correctly since there is no tuner present.

OK, so apparently the IR reciever is not functioning... I programed my Logitech Harmoney Remote with MCE codes and it still wont do anything, is there something i need to do to enable the IR sensor?

No, as long as the driver is installed, that should be all there is to it. I doubt it's the receiver that is the problem in this case.

Edit: I could be wrong actually, it might just be that the remote won't play with the receiver. Some remotes require their own special receiver, etc.
