Hi, I have an A8Js and need to get a wireless router for general internet use (surfing, downloading, etc.)

Any recommendations to something that work well with this laptop ? Preferably under $100 would be nice.

    cheers

There is a wireless forum, this may be more fitting there because the model notebook will have little effect on the router you buy.

Netgear always worked great for me. Just pick the speed you want. Between netgear linksys its a coin flip. Everyone will have something good or bad to say. Check the wifi forum as mentioned above if you are really concerned about it

I have a Linksys. It has a stainless steel case that can withstand the beating fists of a thousand babies, and works pretty well to boot.

most routers are around 60-70$ range, Linksys is by far one of the most popular brands and well known, also DLink and Netgear. I personaly use Linksys, do does my friends.

WRT54G series, so look into those.

I am assuming this is for home use? Also make sure you set up wireless password, so that you have a secured network, and so that others can't connect to your router and use the internet.

Asus makes great routers for those that want extra features and a solid unit........ but I agree with with danny, in the past 4+ years, the Linksys WRT45G series hasn't let me down and they can be had for a decent price almost anywhere that sells routers......... The only thing is, because there haven't been many updates to them over the years, you may end up buying one that's been on the shelf a long time.... Their firmware is always upgradable though, so that's not a problem, but you probably will need to do that.

I have an old Asus WL-500g. It took a few releases for them to get some issues with the firmware (Linux) sorted out but I haven't had any problems since the initial firmware update. This was over 2 years ago so the new ones shouldn't have any problems at all.

I got an old asus wl-330g pocket router. Never any issues. I have it hooked up to my netgear switch which is hooked up to my linksys vonage router. Its an access point not a router but it serves my needs. Have 3 laptops hooke dup to it now. Has some problems with no name wifi cards but works great with any intel wifi cards.

For me, DLink and Linksys are good. Linksys's routers are great, but instructions are often confusing and redundant. d-Link is pretty good too (same lvl as linksys). Airlink is ok. I've had the most problems w/ netgear. It's easy to install, but the wireless routers disconnect too much.

Oh, and you'll probably get bad support w/ netgear from my experience.
