Does anyone know if the recovery CDs for a V1S are available for download? I can't see to find mine, and the recovery partition doesn't actually work properly.

In what way doesn't it work properly?

They are not available for download, the only way is if some V1S user makes a copy for you. Even that might not work since they might be related to the actual hardware (but I don't think so).

When I sent my laptop off for RMA I took an Acronis image of the entire HDD including recovery partition, so I didn't have to rebuild everything when I got it back.

Upon getting it back I simply restored the entire image over the whole HDD, again including recovery partition, and got on with using the laptop (I had to do a minor repair on Vista first but a Vista DVD sorted that).

I have another reason to factory reset the laptop now. When I do the recovery using F9 it starts the process just fine, asking what partitions I want etc, and then presumably copies the recovery image onto the main partition. However after it's finished that and reboots, it just keeps permanently rebooting until the end of time or I turn it off.

Hmm the acronis recovery might have missed some boot configuration finesses :) causing these problems.

Maybe a V1S user can help you with recovery disk images.

Fortunately I have managed to find my recovery discs after all. I'm going to try performing a recovery on the laptop tomorrow to see if it fixes the recovery partition.

It probably won't, but it will get you a new OS install and you'll be able to use the computer.

I'm giving it a go today - I'm going to try a recovery from CD, then attempt another recovery from the recovery partition. I'll let you know how I get on!

Nope - didn't work. Oh well, may as well just delete the partition completely!
