Hey guys, Was just wondering if anyone could help me out. I installed windows 7 on with a new partition (Didn't upgrade vista) and reformatted my entire hard drive because I had backed all of my data up and it was easier this way (Or so I thought...). Turns out apparently I deleted my recovery partition and it won't allow me to use the recovery CD's that came with the laptop as it gives me a huge "ERROR" sign because it can't find the image it's looking for on the recovery partition. Do you guys know of a way to create this partition without sending it to Asus, because I'm a college student and can't afford to be without a laptop.

This isn't a huge urgent issue as Windows 7 is working fine, I just want to know my options now in case something major does come up and I need to repair the laptop and put Vista x64 back on it.

    Thanks guys!

    -Frost

The recovery disk should be able to do the job without trying to find the recovery partition. Make sure you've selected your optical drive to boot first in the BIOS boot sequence and to format your hard drive.

Yeah, afaik there's no way to get the original recovery partition back. But since you've wound up in this predicament, maybe you can please try an experiment that I never got around to trying. It'll help kill some time during spring break, if you're not studying or in Mexico :)

I've noticed that the file structure of the recovery partition looks remarkably similar to the restore DVDs, at least the first one...here's my experiment:
    1. Create a partition titled "RECOVERY" at the very start of the first HDD.
    2. Copy the contents of the first DVD (it never seems to need the second one for whatever reason) and the driver DVD to this partition.
    3. Make the partition hidden (it won't boot from it if not hidden).
    4. Restart, press F9, then cross your fingers!

Of course, if it does boot by some miracle, don't go through with the whole restore process!
