Okay I have a G50vt-x1. I just reformatted it with my version of windwos vista, because I want a clean install. However when it starts to boot up, i get an erorr, and my screen is white and it says "ERROR" in red letters. At the top it says something like
C:/recovery.dat or something like that
Please help

why don't you try recovery by hitting F8 at boot up.
-
try reformatting again and if all else fails use the Vista DVD to attempt recovery

I found the error. You are supposed to delete the hidden recovery partition.

I have same problem, but is there a way to solve it WITHOUT deleting the recovery partition???
-
You can install your own copy of Windows Vista without delete the hidden recovery partition without any problems.
"ERROR" in red letters are programmed by Asus with their recovery disk and recovery parition, so if you do see it then you are using the recovery partition/recovery disk not your own copy of Windows Vista. -

Sounds like it is trying to read the hidden recovery partition and its not there.
You need to use the recover disk instead, or your own OS disk. -
Yes, it's clear that at the first boot it's reading the recovery partition and not the one where the new Vista is installed. The question is: how to solve that problem? I just want to say that this does not happen when installing WIndows xp, the installation runs smooth and and at the first boot here we are the the OS ready to work, apart that I can not find a good video driver for my pc L50Vn under XP, and many features of the notebook donpt work at all, that's why I want to install Tinyvista
lol... So where can I tell to read the right partition?

Ok, after calling the Italian help desk and spoke with very silly (blond?) girl
) who was trying to give me random answers before listening to my question, I decided I have to solve the problem by myself. So here's the solution.
To those who don't want Windows Vista on their Asus laptop but prefer a light version like TinyVista, after the instalation you will face that big red ERROR and "can not open file c:\recovery.dat" on the screen. To solve the problem, after the installation, do not allow the system to restart, maybe just closing the DOS window that says it's going to restart. Now insert your lovely USB key and install the program EasyBCD. Click on "Manage Bootloader", check the "reinstall vista bootloader" and click on "Write MBR".
Here we go, restart your system and forget that ERROR message! The problem was right there with the MBR.
Sorry I can not give very technical information about it, I just know how to make things work
PS: Please Asus, tell Veronica who spoke with me on the phone on Friday 26# June at 15.40 it's not really helpful to be so rude with a customer that calls for info, even if you "just support users that use Windows Vista" or "you're not allowed to give help to those who want to change the native OS in their notebook" or "does the notebook works with Windows Vista? Ok, that's all". Remember dear asus and you, dear veronica, that I DID NOT WANTED TO BUY WINDOWS VISTA when I bought my lovely L50Vn, but I had no chance, so PLEASE, GIVE HELP IF I WANT TO INSTALL A DIFFENENT OS!)
Best regards!
