Hello!
My Asus x57vm-ap030c just arrived; (the motherboard is actually m50vm). Graphic card nvidia GeForce 9600M GS 1G memory. The screen supports up to 1280x800, however I am stuck at a 18 hz refresh rate for all the resolutions; the mouse movement looks funny and jumpy. Vista is using the Generic PnP monitor driver for the LCD screen. I looked at the ASUS website but didn't seem to find anything regarding this issue, nor any screen driver. I tried changing the driver to one of the Flat panel drivers that come with vista but it didn't make a difference. I find it hard to believe that it is a hardware limitation to only 18Hz. Can you suggest anything?
Thanks in advance!
Elmer

You could try removing the monitor from the Device Manager (Uninstall), rebooting, and letting it be detected automatically. See if that fixes the problem.
Next, you could uncheck "hide modes that this monitor does not support" in advanced display settings under Monitor, and then try to enforce manually a refresh rate of 60Hz or around that value. -
Hello E.B.E and thanks for the answer,
I tied the uninstall/reinstall, nothing changed. And I cannot uncheck the "hide modes" box because it is completely disabled. I tried a linux live distribution and it worked fine at 76 Hz, also the Asus ExpressGate software which is based on linux works fine. I'm having this problem only in Vista, which unfortunately will be my main working environment.. Any further ideas?
Thanx!

I would suggest a video driver update next. Try some laptopvide2go.com drivers.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I just purchase an Asus M50VM-X1, and am having the same problem. I have tried numerous video drivers and monitor drivers with no luck. I have had some luck at 1280x800 by creating a 'custom resolution' in the Nvidia driver using a 60hz refresh rate, but so far I have found nothing that will work on older games at 1024x768. I am always stuck at 18hz there no matter what I try.
Refresh rate only 18Hz on ASUS x57vm
