What kind of specs can we expect for the refreshed 15.4 W1 and V6v?
-
The V6V isn't going to get refreshed when it was just released last month... >_>

Sorry it must the M6 I am referring to. There are so many models (Ensemble and Built on Asus) and model name changes, that it can be confusing[

-
It seems like the M6 replacement (Z70A) is due out any day now. I believe it will be exactly like the M6, but with Sonoma, DDR2, and integrated graphics. Along those lines, the Z70V will have dedicated graphics, and should be due out within a couple of months.
Anyway, all the above info came from the thread "New Asus Models", so you might want to check that out to get full details. -
Isn't there going to be a 15.4 version of the V6?
-
Thank you, I will check that thread.

I'd be careful calling the Z70a the M6's replacement... because even though you mentioned integrated graphics, everyone's read the reviews of the great graphics scores the M6 has gotten...... so I'd call it a watered down version of the M6..... where as the "refreshed model" will be the Z70v....
Thanks,
Justin

Well I guess if we what to get really picky, there was actually several models of the M6 and just to name a few
M6A=integrated intel Extreme graphics
M6N=ATI9600
M6Ne=ATI9700
so I guess the most correct answer is that the
z70a is the new M6A and the
z70v is the new M6N/Ne
but thats only if ya wanna get really picky..lol

Oh and for the revised W1 I don't think there are any hard details on this...correct me if I'm wrong here justin.
But my best guess is that it will be a maybe a sonama with a 64mb ATIx600 gpu.
Given that many of the W2 seem to be spec'd (outside the states) with X600's and considering the orginal W1 only ever came with a 9600 (rather than the 9700 like the M6ne which shipped at the same time), then I think that the hope for an X700 is unlikely...
but these are just educated guess's

you're right... but the M6a was never offered in the states, so I didn't even think of it like that.
the W1 is basically just as you described it. There is no indication that it'll will be anything more than a chipset update and a 64mb x600... if it had 128mb, that'd be awesome, but I haven't heard anything to say it would be. We're also finally supposed to get the tv tuner in this model as well.
The W2 is supposed to come here with 128mb x700... the last time I was updated on them was 3 weeks ago at least... so, I'll see if anything has changed, but Asus wants to bring that unit here as the ultimate system..... so it's certainly going to be spec'd high and have a pretty good price tag on it..... but considering the recent drops to the ensemble line as far as pricing goes..... that initial guess of $2,800 is probably going to be lower.
Thanks,
Justin

Justin Thank for the update.
When you check on the W2, could you see if there are any more details on the W1 as well.
A few other questions if you don't mind.
Will these be blue-tooth enabled? Will there be "Built for Asus" models? Expected launch date?
Thanks! -
The more you look into these laptops, the more questions...
I have another one, does the W1 support dual monitor capabilty (external)?
Thanks. -

Every notebook we've ever offered has had an RGB out.......
I don't know if they are going to put bluetooth on the new W1, because I haven't heard that they were planning it for the S5 refresh either....
The W1 is supposed to have a similiar barebone model that should be out this summer.
Thanks,
Justin

Right, it was called the M6r..... the A of late is secured for the sonoma models with integrated video.
But that's what I meant... and the M6r was never a model Asus wanted to bring into North America.... I guess there is a call for it now.
Thanks,
Justin

Is this something you're not following?
The W1 may come sometime between the end of May and the start of June.
The Z70v is something that we shouldn't expect until the start of July.
Thanks,
Justin

ETA on the Ensemble version of W1 and Z70v? TIA

To get really REALLY picky... there was never an M6A until recently. The M6A is actually the refresh of the older M6R which was the the one with integrated graphics... the M6A is a Sonoma platform notebook.
So, therefore the M6A and Z70A are essentially the same, except for the fact that the Z70A is a barebone system
ASUS M6800Ne, P-M 1.5 Dothan, 512MB Ram, Toshiba Combo drive, Samsung Spinpoint M 40G HDD with 8M cache, Mobility Radeon 9700

Well I'm gonna have to disagree abit, at least in Australia both the R and A came after the N, so I guess it really depends on what part of the world your in as well, which is common with alot of asus notebooks(eg w3n). So in Aust
A= intel extreme
R=ATI 9100 integrated
N=ATI 9600/9700 dedicated
Thus gpu performace = A<R<N
So I actuall see these as three separate machines, but then I don't really care, its all semantics anyway, what is more important is if a certain laptop fits your needs, in the end it really is irrelevent what model came before it etc.

Is there any hard data on the refreshed W1? I'm considering the V6V but may hold off if the W1 is only a few weeks away. Does it even have a designation yet? W1xx?
Thanks, -

It's basically supposed to be just a chipset refresh... so technically the same cpu except 533mhz, same amount of ram, but ddr2 533... same hard drive and optical drive.
As far as ETA... Asus is still tight lipped about that one..... they are still getting rid of the current W1n stock
Designation should be W1v, but I want to say i think it's going to be W1vc or something like that....
Thanks,
Justin

Hopefully it will be in early part of May instead of later...[

Thanks for the info. Doesn't sound like it will be out before I need to make my decision. Still considering the V6V but don't like the negative press about fan noise and LCD screen.

Sorry about the duplicate posting. Not sure how it happened, I think it was the back key...
