Tigerdirect or one from ebay that has a 90day warranty.

Eh tigerdirect is okay, bit skiddish of ebay but if the user has good rep and the warranty is through a reputable company then why not.

Ive had my X5 for about 2 months, havent had an issue out of it went as far as to void the warranty lol.

Dunno about the X1 but a common problem with the X5 was the hard drive, so many refurbs are probably units that were returned with a bad drive to the store and ended up in the refurb pile. Units whom had parts fail later in life are usually repaired by asus rather then returned.

Ah I see. I guess i'll do more bit more research on the x1.

Anyways, I was planning on to get the X5 but I dunno if my BB will still have them on the 20th/21th because that's the day befor I leave for vocation.

    Edit : Here's the one that I might get : http://cgi.ebay.com/ASUS-G50VT-X1-15-6-C2D-2-26GHZ-4GB-320GB-9800M-VIDEO_W0QQitemZ370208292419QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_comp_laptop?hash=item5632223e43&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1308|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

Most stores wont have X5's very very soon, hard to say on yours though. If you can stand the paint job the 9 cell battery beats 100mhz in my book.

The X5 never came with a P8700 from the factory.
We are talking about the BestBuy version right?
Either a misprint or someone added one later.
The only model that came with a P8700 was a G50VT-X6.

The X5 is the X5 specs cant change, note the pics and specs are of the X6 and the page never had a review and isnt activated. Im pretty sure they put it in the system then correctly put he X6 into the system later on.

Well considering they list the wrong specs for the X1, the same mistakes from the best buy page.... lol

Note the mwave page has no image, no reviews.

On the X1 ram and hdd speeds are faster then quoted. I also believe I saw the page mention 15.4 inch when the screen on the X1/X5 is the 15.6 inch the 15.4 inch screens are the 1680x1050 on the A1 A2 B1 and X6 (and X3?)

@nVidiaguru, when did you order the X1? I am planning on ordering on but I dunno if I should rush to order it or wait and check if bestbuy still has the X5.

The X1 is a slightly better choice since it has pretty much the same specs as the X5, but with a faster Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 @2.26Ghz over the X5's Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 @2.13Ghz. But if you can get a brand new X5 from bestbuy then it's plenty better deal over a used X1. :)

Mine is a refurb. No problems yet. There is a local PC shop that brings in these refurbs in bulk - kind of like TD (which I don't have locally). BB in Canada is not carrying these cool notebooks.

I paid a premium to have it now versus going the mail order route. Probably $150 extra but I don't care.

So the motherboard on the X5 will support the p8700/8600 right?

Anybody here have one of these cpu's to get rid of by any chance or, something equvilant in the "T" series?

I'm not that worried about Battery life so the T series would be fine too.(I think the "P" is the powesaver not for sure)?

I just bought an X5 off ebay that was about 1 month old(not refurbished) for $650.00.

I couldn't pass that one up. The price was 700.00 but ebay has a deal going right now that takes 10% off the top (plus i paid 20.00 shipping).

I have the Sager NP9280 also but, I do alot of traveling so, i bought this so it would take the load off going back and forth to China.

Ken pm'd me the other day asking if I wanted to buy a T9550 from them, told him i already took care of that, an option if you dont mind the juice.

P8600 is alright but its not a huge upgrade, i got that out of overclocking the P7450 and was able to undervolt to .900 with myne. T9600 was worth it paid 260 for myne used. 2.80 Ghz, double the cache, overclocks past 3.2 Ghz.

P8600 is only like 215 retail, wouldnt pay more then half that though due to the kind of upgrade it is. Only other ones I know right know for sale are quads.
