I plan on purchasing a g50vt-x5 but I'm a bit low on budget. Should I purchase it from Best Buy for $899 or get the refurbished one for $770.

I believe all Asus refurbished laptops like the g50vt only has a 3 month warranty compared to the 1 year warranty Best Buy offers. What are some of your experiences with refurbished laptops? Should I just buy it, use and abuse it before the 3 month warranty ends to make sure everything is ok?

I wouldn't worry too much about purchasing a refurbished unit. Although i haven't purchased a refurb Asus before, I've bough plenty of refurb electronics in the past and never had any major issues with them.

I have only had myne for a month and ive been beating it every single day of its life. Its nearly perfect if not perfect. Most of the ones that have issues had them out of the box complete dud or a bad hdd.

Its hard to say though but id say if this one was returned with a bad hdd and replaced and sold as a refurb the new owner wouldnt have a problem out of it.

I would think your worrying about cosmetics? If its refurbished, the internals of the laptops would be restored to original working specs. As for the cosmetics, I would hope so too but who sells spare g50vt case parts lol. Call and ask them what the laptop looks like, when I bought mine it came with a small scratch on the top of the lid on the inside. I found out its from the rubber pieces on the sides of the lid not being thick enough to meet the palm rest, therefore the lid touched the palm rest. Not a big deal but I'm really ocd about keeping my laptops scratch proof and dust clean lol even though I can NEVER prevent it, my luck huh >_>
