Asus N46 / N56 / N76 Multimedia Laptops to Deliver Ivy Bridge, Aluminum Design | Laptoping

ASUS N6 Series Notebook: CES 2012

Anyone interested in buying one of these later this year?

What kind of price would Asus be aiming for with the N56 compared the to the N55? It seems like a huge leap in build quality compared to the N55 series.

They've improved immensely with an aluminium shell and a backlit keyboard. Very Macbook Pro.

Any guess for the price and release for these new systems? So far I've seen a Q2 release, but nothing on price as of yet. It'd be a great purchase for college, so I'm hoping for it to release sometime before june.

    Give your thoughts..

Definitely looks nice and is one of my top choice of laptop to get along with the Samsung Series 7 laptop. I want the 17.3 in one, hope it is dual hard drives.

I'm interested in. But we don't have yet many informations regarding this notebook. Anyway, it's classy, with a good macbook pro chassis, and i would say around 1000€ or less for this notebook.

Before putting a price we should know what would be the hardware inside...

Look for N56 instead of N6, you will find more information.

I'm looking for an Ivy laptop, 17" 1080p, The Asus N76 is my 1st choice (for now).
The speakers put it on the top of my list, since I always listen to something while on the pc.

The only issue could be the temps and noise...if above 50* celsius at idle, or noisy, I would look for something else.
I'm gonna buy it to last me a few years, and I expect,... no, I demand :) a 2012, 17" laptop with "decent" temps (since I refuse to buy a cooler for a non-gaming laptop).

Although, it will probably run hot and noisy, because of their obsession of making it thinner and more like a "fruity" product  .
How's the fact that it's thinner going to benefit me if it's gonna overheat and have a screaming fan ?
    Nevermind...

i thought the ivy bridge processor are supposd to be more efficient? and also you can switch to the intel graphics when you dont need the nvidia card right? that should cut down the heat

Probably around June-September, at least I believe that's around when the N55/N75 got released last year.

I did some research about this laptop since it's on my buying list.
And I'm hoping the GPU will be slightly better upon release for the west.

There seems to be a small downgrade in that department:
    GT 630M with 96 Pixel Shaders > GT 540m, N55 had a GT555M

I don't really believe the N series will have the 630m, since I reard some ultrabooks will have the 640m.
I'm hoping for 660m, or atleast 650m for the N series.

There are a ton more pictures of the product but I didn't bother posting them all.

    635m is a 555m rebrand...if Asus does that I'll definitely look elsewhere.

I'm NOT going to buy a laptop that has the same gpu as one I could have bought a year ago.
Especially when we're talking about a 1000euro/$ machine.

The N series is (was?) supposed to be the multimedia/desktop replacement machine.
If I wanted ultrabook performance, I'd buy an ultrabook.
But I don't, I like more performance, and if the Asus N76 doesn't have it, other brands will !

So, late June '12? That's a long way to go still. I need a decent 1920x1080p anti-glare laptop with functional keyboard and trackpad now.... :(

Laptop market is filled with junk at this time.

If the "new" N series has the old rebranded 635m, why would anyone buy it ?
For the backlit keys ? There are other brands that offer that also.

That's why there are no new posts...we're waiting to see the actual specs on this series.

Same or some high resolution pictures of the laptop.
In the Asusrog video on YouTube the guy claims it will contain a nVidia 500 series card.
Though the pamphlet that was next to the laptop claims ''latest nVidia graphics card''.

It's a bit contradicting from all sides, too much speculation.
The old N series is pretty much out of stock here in the Netherlands.
And if I'm not mistaken Asus has removed the N75SF from their website as well.
In other words this laptop should have been out already, love/hate with new technology.

Hey! I'm new here ,but while I was browsing around a couple of weeks ago for a new notebook I was about to settle for an Asus N53 or N55. Then the news of a new N series made me wait a bit more. Yeah, not to much interest in this new line yet but then again, it's kinda hard to find something about it.

I found a couple of things though. The first 2 models will be the N56 VM and VZ. A shop in Italy has it on some kind of pre-order here : http://www.fnac.it/Asus-N56VM-S4045V-Notebook-Notebook/a645643 and here: Asus N56VM-S3029V, Notebook. Price: 899 € - Asus N56VM-S3029V and 999 € - Asus N56VM-S4045V .Don't bother converting the prices to dollars - knowing how things go in Europe I guess U.S prices will be the same except for the sign - 899$ and 999$.

No, I doubt they'll change the gpu, because that would rise the price quite a bit.

I had the Asus N76 as my first choice, but I changed my mind :p .
I'll wait for june, when Intel releases the i5's..
    Maybe someone will make a decent 17" i5+660m !
i7 is pointless for average users, and the money you save by getting an i5 instead of i7, could be spent on better graphics.

Maybe. Anyway the gpu could change in the next version like it did with the N53 : from the 415 to 540 -> 550 -> 630. So it's likely that the N56 Vx or some other code for it to have a different gpu once it's out. Or maybe xoticpc will have some nice options ( that would be tricky for me since I live in Europe, but heh).

It's not. Especially if you're going with a pretty strong GPU, which I assume is for occasional gaming, then you definitely want a quad-core. Dual cores are already struggling with the most recent games because most of them are optimized for quads and it's not gonna get any better in the future.

Quad cores have already started going mainstream with Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge should continue the trend (with some 35W chips, at last!), so why buy outdated tech if you're not too budget constrained ?

Yeay! Very reassuring to see more pics surfacing.
Im currently interested in the Asus N56 and the Samsung NP550P5. I will probably end up buying the first one to be released... although the Asus seems to have better build quality.

After looking at the pics, I think I will go for the Asus. Just noticed the 1080p display... that together with decent sound, backlit kb, IB cpu and a BR drive... what a system! I wish it had a hybrid drive for faster boot times.. should at least have a 7200rpm hdd.

GTX675m is not happening in the N series, even the G75 is only getting the GTX670m treatment as far as i know and that is their flagship gaming model.

    Another laptop ruined by Asus...
And the Samsung 7 series (previous line up) all seem to be plagued by this and that...at least what I can read from the threads.

I was really hoping for a 635M in this laptop at least...this is a downgrade from the N55/75 serie.

then i dont seem much point for asus to roll out this series, since the N55 has the GT555M? which i believe is better than the 630... only difference is the ivy bridge, and its only 10~15% faster

Yeah, the 555m is better than the 630 and the same as a 635. A 640m is something that is reasonable to ask for. However, the 675m is a rebranded GTX580m, you'll have a nice notebook meltdown if you put a GPU with that kind of TDP inside a N series.

i am getting a new laptop in december, and i am getting asus for sure, so i hope they roll out better models.

I mean if they put ivy bridge in there, which has better power management, thus cooler, then i would think they could afford to have the graphics card let off a bit more heat right?

also, there are actually two version of 630M, a 28nm process and the older 40nm. 28nm cuts the power by almost half.

Yes, they could probably afford a higher TDP card, but the 580m still has massive TDP, we're talking ~100W here according to notebookcheck. That requires massive cooling that only bigger chassis and heatsinks can deliver.

It is possible Asus thinned down the laptop and thus lowered the maximum amount of cooling they could fit at a reasonable price and chose the 630m for that reason. If there's one thing i've learned about Asus is that sometimes their design choices can be questionable. They do try new things, but sometimes they seem to drop design concepts that just work to try something else.

i see that acer timeline ultrabook has 640M, and they are branding it as an ultrabook, so i dont see any reason why asus cant put the 640 in the N6 easily

Good thing I don't care about gaming at all.... :) This laptop will work for me if it stays cool at the bottom. I don't care if they put in high end graphics card or not. All I need is a matte 1080p screen, a decent touchpad and keyboard (which does NOT miss the keystrokes....are u listening HP?) and cool & quiet operation in my lap. Good looks, quad core 8 threads and Blu Ray are a good bonus... :D

thats exactly my point, if they can fit that into an ultrabook, there is no reason why asus cant put the 660 into the N6 series. If they dont roll out something comparable to the 660 by december, i will probably move to someo ther manufacture (which i really dont want to do)
