Hey, I just read the specs of the Santa Rosa V1J on the cnet UK site and the specs seem perfect :)

Just wondering if there was any confirmed release date and how much it is going to cost?

    Thanks in advance :)

No one knows, We were hoping for a Mid June release but its getting a bit late for that, hopefully by July but theres no garuntees, Also keep in mind the UK Cnet was reviewing a Prototype model, Theres no garuntees the UK end model will be the same as manufacturers often offer different specifications in different markets. One can assume it will be roughly the same price as the V1JP 1800-2000 basically. The deal breaker for me will be battery life as honestly the performance of the V1JP wasnt what I would expect from a $2000 business level model. You might want to take a look at the mac book pro which can run vista/XP, thats if you cant wait a fortnight to see what asus comes up with, Might even end up with the 8700GT or like the last V1 model, a ATi Card.

It won't have teh 8700GT. Last I checked the V1J Santa Rosa had an 8600M GT, right? I think they will change it to the ATI HD2600; it makes no sense to offer the V1 with the same graphics card as the G1. I won't be complaining if they do though ;)

Well, if it has the ati HD 2600, then they don't need to make the F8 either... I don't see a problem with two laptops iwth the same graphics chip. the V1J is just better built.

this is something nobody takes into account when comparing battery life between mac and pc. the mbp does have incredible battery life, but under windows the difference is far less. under windows the latest mbp's get between 30-60 mins less battery life. and the average user say on average their mbp runs for 3 hours, 4+ when brightness etc. turned down. if you run the 2 notebooks on the same platform they will get similar battery life, people have to realise this because i was about to put money down on one of the new mbp's (they are really nice) but i would be using windows mostly and the fact that apple never states this difference kind of pisses me off, i mean you wouldnt compare 3dmark05 scores against 3dmark06 would you? and the old mbp's with the x1600 get between 1-2 hours in windows.

Well...Apple advertises that you *can* run Windows on the MBP, but the default OS for a MBP is still OSX. I don't think they need to feel obligated to advertise how their system runs under Windows and Linux. The general idea is, if you're *only* going to run Windows 100% of the time..get a PC. You'll have better compatibility/support/etc anyway. The specs of the MBP, with the exception of the screen, are pretty common now.

I would hope the V1J comes with at lest a HD 2600 XT if it goes the ATI route. Why stick with only a 2600? That said, did ATI ever post the differences between the XT and non-XT version yet?

There are rumors of the VX2s with the 8600M GT though in one of the other threads here.

The F8 is a smaller notebook (14.1in) and is a more stylish A8, so probably not all the way up to the business line in quality.

The last VX1 had the 7700 which was the same card in the G1, so this time it might be the same again (8600M GT in both the G1 and VX1)

I was told by proportable the Vx2 will have a 8700. Take these pre production models with a grain of salt, the Australian magazing PcMarket did a pre release review of the F3Sv with a 8600GT and it never appeared.
