How exactly is this done on the laptop? Vista Add/Remove only shows Norton internet security and live update. But CCleaners unistaller shows the whole lot, but doesn't allow me to uninstall from there. It just crashes CCleaner, and in the process, Vista. I have 76 processes running o_0.
Also I've been having problems mounting images from a DVD. I can mount them on Daemon Tools, but then Vista just crashes out on me. Is it cause of Vista, or Norton?
    Thanks guys.

I find Norton causes serious damage in terms of Vista performance. I'd use the Recovery DVD and shut down the system when it asks for the driver DVD. When you do that you'll have a clean Vista install with no Norton. Only thing you'll need to do is install the drivers/programs you do need off the driver CD manually.

I found uninstalling Norton before you go through the initial installation + updating all the definitions/program files will actually do something to Vista where programs will fail to install correctly, or other oddities. And even if you do that, there will still be performance issues.

Installing off a fresh Vista install is just far faster. Norton is just a horrible program, and has been for years. If you still need an anti-virus, as you probably already know, go elsewhere.

Nice to hear you use CCleaner btw hehe, I love that program.

Yeah CCleaner is gem of a program. :)
So how do I go about using the recovery DVD then?

Norton has a tool that supposedly cleans off a lot of what is left on by the normal uninstaller. I used it back when I used their 2004 internet security suite, and it seemed to work alright. I don't know how good of a job it does now, but it is easy enough to try. Go here.

Just stick it in the drive. And press "ESC" during the BIOS bootup and you'll get a screen letting you choose which device to boot to (the HDD and your DVD drive).

Once the install boots up it'll give you three options. I suggest the option with 2 partitions (one for Vista, and the other for data/etc).

The only thing you'll have to do is shut down the computer when it pops up saying "please insert driver disc", don't even press "OK". Just shut it off and restart the computer. You won't need the recovery DVD in the drive after this, since everything is already on the HDD.

Beyond that you don't have to do anything. It has to go through a few different stages.. Don't touch anything until it has a screen asking you to choose your language. The reason I say this is because it will appear to be in the Windows desktop ready to be used at one step, but it isn't lol.

Thanks mate. Hopefully this should fix my mounting problems as well.

I had found this already, but I believe it is used to just clean up after you've finished uninstalling the main program.

Oooooh 76 processes thats not good. As for daemon its a combination of the two I've heard compatibility issues between vista and daemon so thats probably the problem.

What about installing the drivers and stuff, how would we go about that. Would we search the disk manually, and install that way? If so, can you tell me which ones to install?

I can't really give you a list. All I can tell you is that on the Support DVD in the root directory there's a .txt file called FILELIST, and it tells you what is in each directory. So install any drivers that correspond to your hardware.

As for programs. I only install the VGA, Touchpad, Audio, Logitech Mouse, Power4Gear, and all the ATK media/hotkey/etc software. The rest is garbage for me.

Hey guys, I just got a new g1s today and I'm currently the cleansing process. :sigh: I had a question though, after doing a system restore, how do you install individual drivers off the recovery disk? The wireless card is the most important so I can at least go online and download the essentials. Thx.

Gentlemen, are we going to remove ONE SINGLE NORTON or we going to do brain surgery?
    ]
Why not to follow KISS rule?

    ADD/REMOVE first (remove)
    restart computer second.
Run registry cleaner, If your lovely CCleaner crashes, run another cleaner - you have plenty of time to do this job.

Once Norton is uninstalled, computer can breath and all this crap that left behind can be removed later.
    AND YOU ARE SAVE
