In the G51J BSOD thread, the removal of the Synaptic drivers have been recommended for different reasons. If I were to remove them, what kind of effect will it have on my trackpad? What all will I lose as far as features...and will it affect the sensitivity and smoothness of the mouse on my screen? Sorry about the noob questions....just want to know what it will affect before I do it.
There are reasons why I'm thinking about it...more specifically in game when I don't want to go to my table and hook up my mouse in WoW I'll go do some farming and whatnot...and a lot of times a tap on the pad doesn't register as a left click like it did on my old G2S.
I'd like to have that funtionality back...but I don't want to lose the functionality that I already have with my trackpad. Thanks in advance for any information.![]()

Your touchpad will still work without the synaptics driver, but you'll probably loose some features such as EdgeMotion and Virtual Scrolling. However, you should still be able to change your mouse sensitivity in your default mouse properties.

I have a similar question along the lines of touchpad that I hope someone will be able to help me with...
I disabled the synaptics driver for the touchpad as it was causing issues with my keyboard, and it is known to cause other issues as well.
However, I would like to now disable my touchpad for my Asus g51j-a1, but I can't through device manager (no option to disable the ps/2 mouse in DManager, which is the touchpad).
I did try uninstalling the touchpad in device manager, but after 2 reboots it installed itself again..
Anybody have any clue how to permanently disable the touchpad? -

Doesn't the G51J have a button or Fn+key combo to disable the touchpad? I know the G60VX and G72GX do, as does my 1201N.
-
yes but that button only works when you have synaptics installed
-
1) removing synaptics drivers is for people who suffer from missed keystrokes
2) the sensitivity is good on stock imo
3) virtual scroll works without -
Can anyone help me here? -

Im talking about disabling the touchpad entirely,
There is no option in the bios to disable PS/2 devices, and my touchpad always reinstalls after a reboot.
That is why I came here. -
Anyone? -
This isn't a solution for you, but a work-around so to speak. There are mice out there which will give you the option of disabling a touchpad when it's plugged in. Maybe one of those mice will effectively do what you need?

I was going to suggest my mouse (MS Sidewinder X8) as one of those mice I'm talking about, but apparently on my laptop the software for it doesn't give me the option to disable the touchpad. Would have sworn that it would, because there is an option on my desktop to do so.... this is weird.

The G50V-A1 BIOS has an option to disable the touchpad. It is on the Advanced tab. Set "Internal Pointing Device" to Disable. Does the G51 have this option?
I've disabled mine this way and there is no need to remove the drivers. -
