    Hey folks,

a Few months back a did a flawless uprade from a 2nd grn i5 to an i7-2670 in my Asus K53e and everything was plug and play. Also added a vertex 3 ssd which makes this pc absolutely rip.

Yesterday i purchased an ASUS U31SD-AH31 13.3-Inch Ultra-Portable Laptop from amazon for like 460 bucks plus i had a hundred dollars in amazon gift cards so it was a great deal...I have an I7-2630 2.0ghz i want to swap for the I3 it comes with and also install an ssd.I havent been able to find any teardown or disassembly Videos anywhere,i searched for quite a while on google.Regardless of whether this thing overheats (in which i would obvoiusly put back to stock) i still want to add the ssd,so i was hoping you guys could help me find hopefully a video for this model for how to take apart.I found a similar or comperable pc by asus, but not the U series and i really dont want to risk it...

Could someone point me in the right direction? Ive searched google and youtube intensly, maybe i am missing something!

Also,i thought i saw somewhere that with these "sub-notebooks" alot of them you just take the back off and have direct access to everything instantly! Like take the back off and the heatsink/fan is RIGHT THERE!!!

Finally,if there ISNT a video out there but just intructions,i will make the video myself to help out the community..Thank you guys...

The processor might be soldered on the motherboard, not sure. The common way to opening U series is unscrew the screws on the botom, use a credit card to or a tool to depress the three clips on the top of the keyboard, unscrew some more, then it's completely disassembled.

I don't think the I7-2630 comes as a BGA part. So it should be replaceable.

Judging from the pics, there are 2 exposed screws on the bottom and the others may be under the rubber feet or battery. You'll have to take the access panel off and probably remove any screws there too.

The keyboard is top-mounted, so it has 4 tabs holding it in.

Here are generic keyboard removal instructions.

I've moved this thread to the ASUS forum with a redirect. Maybe a reseller will see it and give you some more exact advice.

Thank you for your advice guys..Last night i took it apart and am stuck.I beleive i need to get the underside seperated from the mobo..As the underside connects to the mobo, then the mobo connects to the topside peice. One thing i wondered myself was if the rubber thingys had screws under them... i think my next step is to take off rubber and see if there are screws under them. Will report back.We love this pc btw,its sleek, sexy, and this tiny thing has a dedicated card! Pretty neat..God, i love technology!

hate to double post but is there any supergeeks who may know an asus model that would be mechanically similar to this one, that would have a teardown guide?

Hate to double post but does someone know a similar pc to this one mechanically, for a teardown guide?

I want to buy that exact laptop from Amazon... I guess I am just waiting to see if the price drops in June, since I am not in a hurry.

Is it really slim and lightweight? good for carrying around all day?

Hi dovedescent7. I was wondering if you could help me. I want to clean the insides of my U31SD and remove dust that I suspect has gathered on the fan blades and cooling fins, since the fan now runs non-stop and drains the battery faster than it should. How much would I have do disassemble to get to those parts?
