    Hi all,

I am thinking of replacing the CPU of my G71 (Q9000):

    1 - is it doable?
2 -considering price is not an issue, which processor would be the best from your point of view?

    Thanks!

    It should be doable.

The best should be a Core 2 Extreme QX9300 but they are ridiculously expensive.

Expect to pay at least like $500 for it on ebay.

I was looking on eBay, and boy did I get mine for a steal. The same seller I bought mine from is selling an OEM QX9300 again, and the bids are up to $520, whereas I got mine for $445. Yow.

What gave you the idea you need to upgrade your CPU? The Q9000 is quite fine on its own.

I don't regret buying my QX9300, it's flawless at 2.93ghz and only set me back $400, minus $200 from selling the P9600 it replaced. But in this market the price is higher and it's more difficult to sell a Q9000, as it doesn't fit all laptops.

But I insist, from my testing I've found that a quad core is invaluable, but clockspeed over 2ghz is overrated.

Yes QX9300 is the one I was aiming at

@anothergeek: true, I will wait and see how the Q9000 performs

    Thanks
