    Hi Guys

My charger failed on me the other day and I am having no luck getting it replaced by ASUS..I have tried asusparts.eu but they are quoting 4weeks + to get stock so I am currently stuck with a £1000 polished aluminium placemat

Has any one any ideas why the charger has 3 part design, 2 outer conductors and 1 inner tip...makes me very nervous to try any third party chargers unless someone has found one that works

I am off travelling for work in 2 weeks for a month and I got this laptop for the very reason it would be easy to take with me.

Hoping someone can help or provide some wisdom :)

    Hey there.

There are several universal adapter packages out there with interchangeable plugs, one of which should work with your laptop. I'm from the US but if you look up "universal laptop charger" on Amazon you should find several for relatively low prices. I would double check to make sure your model is supported before purchasing though.

    Thanks Mike

I have looked at them before but nothing has quite the same tip. This is like a mono headphone jack, but hollow on the inside!

Ah I see. Well hopefully someone else here will be able to help you out then.

Good luck finding that adapter. :)

I know you can order spares in the US, matt. I think your best option might be to import it (IF Asus do that).

I think it's appalling that Asus aren't helping you with this. I'm loving the UX31, but I can't stand poor customer service. If I hear anymore of these stories, this will probably be my last Asus purchase.

Is Asus denying your legitimate warranty claim, or is Asus claiming that a replacement is unavailable?

Asus should replace your adapter. Period. It's a high end product and it obviously is still under warranty. Keep on contacting Asus because they definitely owe you a charger.

I originally tried contacted support who told me I'd have to order one from asusparts.eu who just sell spares so then tried to RMA the faulty charger but they rejected the RMA because it 'could' be induced damage and the warranty doesn't cover this

I don't mind paying for a new charger now n having a sapre if I can get the other fixed but I need a charger within the week

Also, UK stock of the genuine charger will be available in the next 2 weeks.

    Google shopping it....

I'd be very bothered by a warranty claim for something as cheap and simple as a power adapter being denied. The entire "'could' be induced damage" excuse isn't acceptable. Now I suppose a power adapter could be damaged by a power surge, or some sort of accidental damage, but if you have a legitimate warranty claim and your very expensive "ultrabook" has been rendered inoperable by the failure of the power adapter, Asus owes you a power adapter. It sounds like bad customer service on the part of Asus. It makes you wonder if they won't replace a 45 watt power adapter, what would they do if you needed a motherboard replacement?

If I were you, I'd stress the fact that your system is unusable without a power adapter. Give them a choice between sending you a new power adapter in a timely manner, or failing that, a system replacement. Be firm, polite and insistent.

If you are in the Uk remember in the first 6 months the manufacturer must prove it was mis use, not the other way around.

Assume you bough it from PC world/currys ?

Plus, where in the UK are you. I know PC world at J9 in bitmingham has some customer returns (as they tried to sell me one) and maybe with a bit of persistence they may give you one.

If you bought it less than 21 days ago the store will swap it by their own policy.

Yeah it was PC World Oxford, I've tried pushing them for a charger but they said I'd have to contact ASUS...think it's time to get a little firmer with everyone and see what happens

Where did you see 2 weeks till they were available, everywhere I look is still saying March?

You should go in a reject the laptop, or rather give them opportunity to repair. They wont be able to as the part is not available and then they should swap it. Pc world is liable as is asus.

The internal Components of the adapter are made by Delta and if you search via that model number there are tons of adapters that come up for Acer and Advent Laptops with a 5.5/2.5mm tip surely these will be fine to use?

Any ideas why the asus charger has 3 parts to the tip?

    Cheers

NO, dont do it. The charger MUST be 3 ping with a 19V and 10V conductor. If you use a single 19v conductor it will put 19v through 10v components.

Dont know why asus did this, all I know is I am on my second laptop...

I will take your advice, I'm surprised they make no mention of this on the actual adapter, and why would it need two different voltages, just curious I guess

my best guess is that its to change the charge light colour, as mine as damaged then the 19V conductor touched the case.
