    Hey there,

I reciently purchased a M6 compatible battery for my z70v since the 90-N998B1100 batteries are apparently no longer being made and not availible anywhere in canada.

The m6 battery worked great, but then when i plugged in, the battery would start to charge for a second and then just stop. I noticed that this battery is only 4400mah, while the orginal z70 battery was 4800. Would this cause a problem? Is the bios not jiving with this battery and refusing to charge it?

Does anyone know of a alternate battery to the 90-N998B1100 or a compatible third party one that will work in my z70v?

I see these two on ebay, one is designed for m6 series and is 4800mAh:

and this one is apparently a "compatible" battery for the z70 series buts its 4400mAh:

    Thanks for your help! :)

The 4400 is just a design spec for the battery you bought as a non-OEM model - all battery manufacturers put different mAh into the batteries, sometimes same as original, less or more. Asus' original spec was 4800, but 4400 will work fine - there should be no problem and the BIOS should interact normally. That said, what was the % battery remaining when you plugged it in? The symptom you're describing sounds like what happens when you plug in a fully charged battery. Also, what % remaining does XP report when you unplug it after the charge light goes out?

BTW, both of the batteries you link from Ebay are aftermarket non-OEM batteries that are "designed" and "compatible" with the M6/Z70 series... it's just that they are advertised differently in their listings and one of them is powered to original spec.

Well the battery worked fine when i first installed it. I left it to charge overnight (not sure if ti actually charged or if it was already full)and when i booted up on battery the next day at school it read 100% and i used it for almost 3 hours on battery no problem. For my next classes i had it plugged in but i didn't notice that it wasn't recharging until today when i booted it up and the battery was dead.

Right now it says its at 2.2% and its "Online" (not charging). If i unplug it it switches to battery and i get a low battery warning (obviously) and when i plug it back in, the charging light comes on, its reports charging in RMclock and windows power monitor, but then it just stops after seconds or up to a couple minutes. While it is showing its charging, it does actually increase the charge level in the battery a few mWh.

I dont know why it would stop, RMclock can detect the total capacity and the current capacity, so i assume the bios can too so it shouldn't stop the charing till its full.

*edit* I just unplugged it while it was on and it turned off, it didn't even switch to battery. It like there isn't even a battery installed.

*edit 2* It just restarted randomly and when it booted back up RMclock reports 22.4%

I think the firmware on the battery does not communicate properly with the machine. Either the firmware for the M6 is different from the Z70; or the firmware implemented by the 3rd party who built the battery is not written properly.

It seems more likely that it's the first, in which case you could solve the problem by buying the battery specifically designed for your computer... but if it's the second, then that won't do either.

It's of course also possible that the battery is bad.

Maybe the safest way is to try getting a "genuine" Z70 battery... can't you order one from the ASUS eStore? Or maybe from the ASUS repair center, try giving them a call?

Asus doesn't have them in stock anymore and they aren't getting anymore either. I tried to get one from them directly before i bought this knock-off POS.

Well then you can risk and get the Z70 battery from ebay...

Maybe you have a friend with an M6? To try out the battery that you have now. Maybe it's bad; do you have warranty on it?
