I live/work in Japan and use Japanese quite a lot. Japanese keyboards have a different punctuation layout as well as several dedicated buttons that make typing in Japanese easier.

I don't suppose anyone knows if it would be possible to buy a Japanese keyboard (where?) and replace it, then change the driver?

I could just buy a keyboard and use it like that, but I'm planning to use the laptop in areas with limited space, so I'd really prefer not to do that if possible.

Well you dont need to change the driver if that were the case. As for swapping out a keyboard on a laptop I doubt its possible due to the internal configurations. Dont quote me on it though.

I had the same problem with you as I wanted to do that with the first batch of 2nd Gen Dell XPS. I just decided to buy a smaller Sony 13" laptop for work, albiet expensive unless you have the funds. Best time to buy one is Golden Week sales, at Bic Camera or Yodobashi, just like black friday back home. I just couldnt see myself lugging the 17inch on the shinkansen all the time, let alone the normal trains.

IMHO just go for a smaller notebook if its for work. I tend to keep work stuff seperate from gaming. And I dont ever see myself gaming outside in Japan. its all about portable handhelds anyway.

This is for gaming, which is why I'm buying from America. The cards here are crap and the computers overpriced, even on kakaku.

You would have to change the driver, I think. I had to install the 109-key Japanese keyboard driver or whatever when I got my current laptop.
