I'm fairly certain I say our own Coriolis post this over at Notebook Forums (if it wasn't him I apoligize).
Looks like a recent list of Canadian companies that Microsoft has sued for illegal software distribution. That might not seem like a huge deal and it's probably not AS illegal if they just gave it away.... but it's a HUGE deal if say you pay $150 for a copy of XP Pro loaded on your system and you get a pirated copy.... With the slim margins on a system as it is, they're probably doubling their profits..... and that's not cool.
If you buy a system and pay for a geniune Microsoft OS, the product code label must be affixed under your system... Keep an eye out and report anything you think is suspicious.
... This has been a public service announcement...[]
Thanks,
Justin

wow, that's dirty. People love to bash Microsoft, but these practices are hugely unfair to consumers, Microsoft and competing businesses that don't partake in such illegal practices.
Personally, I hope they lose a bunch of money and are publicly shamed.
Coriolis, we'll forgive you for forgetting us this time, but next time, well...

Whoops, I KNEW i forgot something...
I wanted to post it here, I headed to NBF first, as I remembered there was a CanadaSys thread.
http://www.integratedmar.com/connectit/story.cfm?item=1681
I'm kinda disappointed at CanadaSys now..
But it is the Scarborough location, and I've heard much horror stories from there.. -
hmm, this isn't very good at all
Coriolis... horror stories from Scarborough you say? Can you elaborate a bit?
I'm planning on buying a notebook from CanadaSys, and I'd very much like to avoid trouble [xx(]
Which location did you/do you deal with?
Thanks,
Sandeep -
I go to the one that opened about, 4-5 months ago, it's in Markham, near Pacific Mall, on Warden and Steeles.
The only guy I'd deal with is Joseph, he worked at the North York location, and everyone loved doing business with him. He moved the the Markham location recently, I've heard. Anyways, I have not dealed with the guy, but with someone else at the NY location along with my sister, as I was helping her buy a computer. It was just a stick of Kingston RAM, and they were polite about my sis's newbie buying tactics, which was very cheap there at the time. After installing it, It ran into problems, and I was not there to help, but my sister phoned in, got a step by step procedure if I did it right, and there was nothing wrong with it. So he said to come back the next day, where he already had another stick ready to trade it, and since then, I've never got problems(or went back). I moved to Markham []
As for the horror stories, one or two are posted at the TorontoPCStores forums which i've seen you post at
There are more, but I don't recall it off my head, and I'll just be a broken telephone that way -
Hi Coriolis,
Thanks for your reply... at least that sets my mind at ease. The stories posted at Torontopcstores.com seem to be isolated incidents. Plus, I've found (in dealing with Canada Computers) that knowing what you want before you go in helps a lot in terms of service... these cheap places don't seem to like newbies too much.
Do you remember if you've ever interacted with someone named Danny Li? He's the one thats been very good with corresponding via email and I'm hoping its just not a pre-sale thing.
Also, I've never heard the term "broken telephone" before... what does it mean exactly?
Thanks,
Sandeep -

Lets put it this way...... There are plenty of people who think Microsoft is "big business" and they're taking all your hard earned money and so forth.... everyone wants to fight big brother and think they should get more for their money......
It's still illegal to distribute illegal copies of any software.... but you go from being the little guys hero (giving it out for free) to not only a pirate but a huge @$$ when you rip someone off for their hard earned money and aren't even giving them the real thing.....
Thanks,
Justin

From a friend telling a riend telling me. Messages get jumbled, over exaggerated, etc.
And I think both Danny and Joseph are at the Markham location, I've talked to both of them using the [email protected] address -
Hey Justin,
I'm definitely not arguing with you in the least - I think that giving consumers fradulent information about what they're getting should be a very harshly punished crime. I don't care what industry a company work s in, if they mislead consumers, they should be punished. Even battery run times in notebooks I think are suspect - I know that everyone is doing it, but noone should.
As a consumer, I want the lowest price for my Z70V and as I'm not buying an operating system, CanadaSys is definitely the best option for me yet. I really wish that PROportable or ISTNC had a Canadian division physically based in Canada so we wouldn't have to worry about even the possibility of duties and expensive shipping costs.
Thanks Coriolis for the info
And Justin as always for your helpful comments

well... getting into battery life times you better know how it's done. It's an industry standard to use Mobile Mark to get battery life numbers. The deal with that is it's designed to make every system test the same and get the MAXIMUM life out of the system using all powersaving features and software......
With that said, if you want to critize battery life marks that you or someone else can't hit... bring that up with the magazine reviewers... these numbers don't come out of thin air.. I'm not the biggest fan of it myself either... so don't get me wrong.
When someone asks me about battery life on a system I give them MY averages and MY minimums.... and Mobile Marks' maxiums. With us being performance minded for the most part people want to know what they could do with this system if they went all out and man... rendered some 3D scenes while you're held up at the airport.... I mean the battery life is still good for what one could realistically expect during that type of performance need....... but someone who would go all hardcore like that might get a minimum of 1-2 hours of maxed out use on a maxed out system w/ an 8 cell battery....... Well average time under normal use is between say 3-4 hours...... with a maxium of say 5-6. But for someone to expect 5-6 hours when they are using it all maxed out under maxed loads, is crazy..
Mobile Mark reall evens things out.... a slower and faster cpu really aren't going to change mobile mark's numbers as it's based on power saving which both cpus can clock down to 600mhz.........
Ah.. enough on that.......
Thanks,
Justin
