Is there any way reset the DVD region count under Vista 32?

What model DVD is installed on the laptop?

    Thanks

You can get the latter info in Device manager, and then plug the model # info into Google for more detail. Asus uses Toshiba/Samsung generally, although sometimes other mfg's may be installed dependent on supply at time of build.

DVD region setting is usually a firmware thing; sometimes you can alter it in device properties, but there is a limited number of times it can be done before it locks and prevents any further changes. If you're asking about how to reset the change count to zero, I don't know that there is a way (legally, anyhow).

I believe you have 5 attempts to change the DVD's region code before it locks to one region. All you have to do is insert another DVD from another region and your media player should detect that and ask if you want to change your optical drive's regional setting.

There is no legal solution to reset region change counter. It exists for a reason.
That said, google is always your friend.

I think that you can also, technically (& legally), send it back to the manufacturer and ask for the region counter to be reset. But I'm not sure.

Right, there no legal solution to reset counter.
There is also no legal solution to disable regional code

There is a different type of reset, that the manufacturer can do, at least judging from the information given by the software Drive Info. See attached screenshot. That's what I was talking about in my earlier post.

I downloaded a number of different applications, some did nothing, one gave me a Blue Screen of Death. The only one that seems to work is a program called AnyDVD. Running it, the system then ignores the region the disk is from - but it is expensive.

Right, this is the point where the discussion has to stop because it's legality starts to become doubtful. :)
