i was going to use the vista partion tool to make my data partion bigger and my c partion small. I used jk defrag to move the files to the end of the drive. I don't think it moved the system files. All the files are together and I should be able to resize the partion, but I think the system files are in the middle of my drive and not at the beginning where performace is better. Is there a way to move my system files and the page file to the front of the drive and force all the files next to it.

You don't need to worry about that thanks to the partitioning program built into Vista. That's the whole magic behind repartitioning programs in general anyway... not having headaches of doing that.

I was going to type the steps for you, but then googling revealed this nice guide:
    http://www.vistarewired.com/2007/02/16/how-to-resize-a-partition-in-windows-vista

Side note: Some people prefer to have their swap file contiguous and near the "front of the drive", both for performance reasons. I haven't researched as to whether or not it is necessary in Vista (it may do it automatically via system managed), but it can't hurt to :

-Disable your swap file (4GB of RAM in the G50 may make you want to permanently disable it like I do)
    -Reboot
    -Defrag
    -Enable Swap File
    -Reboot
    -Defrag

Of course, the closer to a new install, and the less stuff on your HD anyway, the better.

I tried this method of resizing on my F3sv which just got a new hard drive . It doesn't work. It's possible I've missed something , or done something wrong , but I don't think so. Vista lets me shrink the C partition , but it won't let me increase the D partition with the saved space .

    Can anyone help here ?
    Thanks,

If you have Vista your in luck with its built in non destructive partition management tools. They are not the most powerful but easy to use. You can shrink/expand partitions, format unpartitioned space ect.

If you need stronger tools or do not have Vista installed and want a good non destructive program I like Nortons Partition Magic (its the only norton product I like)
