I just got my laptop back from servicing and i have abit problem with my resolution. I set my resolution to max and my desktop icons are crystal clear but when i set my resolution to the default one, which is when i receive my laptop the first day, it isnt as crystal clear as before, any ideas what is happening?

Always set resolution to max or native for your screen. Anything else will make things fuzzy.

1280x768 isn't even the proper aspect ratio for a 16:10 screen. Set it at WSXGA+ 1680x1050, the resolution your monitor is supposed to display.

They might have put a newer screen in your laptop, with a larger native resolution. Most people would consider that an upgrade, but I have my doubts :D

Just increase the DPI setting (that will increase font sizes etc) until you are comfortable with reading the screen, and leave the resolution at the default. There's no good way to lower resolution on LCD screens.

Just put the highest one. You might think it's small at first but after a week, it's perfect.

I actually suggest using the DPI setting if you're not comfortable with the font sizes. You'll need those eyes when you'll be 30... 40... 50...
