The Z70V review should, for all practical purposes, match the reviews for the M6. The only difference is the Sonoma chipset, which really shouldn't alter it that much. Justin mentioned that the M6 reviews are all really solid, so, nothing to worry about there.

Fyi just found one... well thought that it might be slightly different as teh Z70V was trying to modify the M6 right, so better case, screen or something otherwise why modify it right? My logic anyway... might be wrong..

here's the link 2 the review for the Z70V its by geared2play...

Would it be possible for you to comment on the heat of the Z70V compared to the Z71V... I imagine its not that big of an issue but I dont want to take the chance... the Z71V from what I've read sounds the coolest running of all the ASUS laptops. Can you compare the two? I would very much appreciate it. Also overall would you say the Z70V is better than the Z71V? Cheers! Thanks!

I was also wondering about the performance. The review back on the Geared2Play forum is a little worrying.
I'm guessing other dealers also have the same problem?
Waiting for someone to get a unit before taking the plunge. [8D]

Im in the same boat...[ :D] sounds sweet... if its anything like the M6Ns performance wise it should be ok. I agree the review from Geared2Play is worrying, but it is still very brief so when its done Ill reconsider... plus a number of other forum members have mentioned posting their reviews when their machine arrives... Hope its good... any other systems you were considering dqm?

    Cheers!

I'm pretty much sold on the Z70 - undecided between the A or V as I'm not a gamer. Just looking for a laptop that I can use for coding.
Also want something that can go a few years without my needing to dump it for a new system. Love the look of the system!
Been waiting for it to arrive for the past couple of months.

I like the Z71V as well but the design turns me off...might still get that though if I have to wait too long for the Z70.

Just wanted to add that this is a great site for reviewing potentials systems and getting feedback. Was looking at an ugly Dell before I got sold on Asus build quality/looks.

Like i said on on the review. Anyone who actually tested the system would notice the same thing. This is not common to any single batch. This is widespread to all of them. After working with asus support last night for about 5 hours we narrowed it down to just a simple bios "issue" if you can call it that. It has been confirmed and i already posted that the notebook performs right. Please read the bottom i explained it very well. Infact the "issue" as it turns out is common to all notebooks fromt he centrino line up it is actually a built in feature. Please read that whole page. If i didnt make my point clear enough ......THIS IS ONE FINE NOTEBOOK. The improper cpu post is only artificial. It will be corrected to match the rest. On the same subject the proper cpu posts on the others are also artificial by the same token.

This is similiar to what occured with the M6ne's last year when the dothan's came out.. the bios read them at running only at 600mhz... however the cpu was scaling correctly, the bios just didn't pick up on it. It's something that I'm sure they'll correct with the next bios, but it's just cosmetic.

On a side note, I must say that the Z70v's screen is almost identical to the W1's, where as the Z71v's screen is a slightly lower quality. Anyone looking for the best 15.4" WSXGA+ screen, and doesn't need the extra VRAM in the Z71v.... it's an obvious choice to pick up the Z70v.

I concur the screen on the z70v is fantasmic. The z71v also had an absolutely great screen. People on the forums blew the situation out of proportion. Someone will find something wrong with this screen also and every other model that gets noticed on these forums. We are dealers here so customers have no incentive to trust their dealers but both i nad Justin have only incentive to tell it how we see it otherwise our word would not mean anything. If you like good quality go for this or the z71v. This screen on the z70v lacks some of the characteristics described by users of the z71v but i am positive someone will have something to say about something odd they notice. Change is a good thing. Dont look at the screen with a microscope and you will love it.

    I concur, do you concur?

Side by side I think the Z70v screen is the exact screen that was in the W1..... I can say that. Again, the Z71v was supposed to get that, but it also ended up coming over here cheaper tha we initially thought.

Both are good, but the Z70v is better.... but yeah, someone will always find something wrong with everything....

There will always be nuts in this world who can never take a decision on their own

They want others to take decisions for them and then blame others if

Its a reflection of their own indecisive & miserable personal lives

OOh ok i though he was a fannatic of asus. If he bought something from you i dont blame him for loving asus. Justin asus should make you an honanary spokesperson and give you something better for next new years besides some aged wine that tastes like vinegar. I hope "they" are not reading this.

I feel what you are saying. WHat do you think it will do to a brand like asus if you can find it in your local best buy next to your average HP or toshiba? First of all they will be forced to open a foreign support center somewhere in india shortly after the quality of their products drop becuase they were forced to compete with Hp, dell and toshiba. Asus is in a league of their own when it comes to quality and support. The reason their notebook line becuase so popular in the last few years is becuase of their preffered partners who back up their name with support and accurate information for the most part. I seriously doubt you will ever see asus spop up at your loal discounter. There is nothing out there that will kill your name like selling your products to a discounter, it even applies to many other industries besides computers

I'd like to know what 3 stores you were in that had stock of the Z70v.. all within driving ranage I take it? The z70v shipment was so small that I'd honestly be surprised that you could find them..... since first shipments usually go to Asus' biggest dealers... and last I knew there should be a good 2-3 hours (driving distance) between anyone who would have them.... at the very least.

Haha..... Yeah, well ..... I'm just surprised to were able to go to 4 places that sold Asus...... regardless.

I think overall, the new M6 (Z70v) is a betteer "overall" system than the Z71v...... the Z71 has more power in the gpu, but is a lower qualty design, build and and screen. Although it's stil a fantasic computer.... if you put 128mb card in the Z70v, it'd be a lot more expensive.... but you can't go wrong.. some people think they need more graphics power than they really do.... and those are the people who would be happier with a better looking, better quality system like the Z70v.

i'm very impressed by the Z70v... the power button and touchpad look a lot better than on the M6Ne
Plus, some ports have been moved around...for the better, in my opinion.

I really look forward to seeing more reviews.

Side by side with 3d images games and movies i think they are very comparable. The z70v lacks some of the anomalies which the z71v had. Some people may think its good. I have both the z71v and z70v on display for a few days. So far people who have not read these forums are impressed by both of them. I have yett to see a sngle person to complain about any light leekage or sheens. I think its unfair to say the screen on the z71v is worse. I happen to think that it is of equal quality when used in the way it was designed for. Yes it has a "unique sparkly sheen" on reds, greens or whatever other color. Its all been blown out of proportion. Just the other day i had a forum visit come by just to see the screen. He subsequently posted about it on n.f. He saw the sparkle only after putting his face intot he screen. It did not bother him one bit. He thought the screen was good quality.....i think though i am not sure becuase he is now looking for w3v. I told him to visit you by the way for that. Honestly the only thing the z70v has on the z71v is design. Some people may consider it a better quality screen. I think of it as just different.

Haha..... thats like calling a Ferrari Modena "cheap" becasue it's under $200k and only have a V8......

Strictly speaking, the Z71v is weird... It's still the highest performing model and yet is the other end of the spectrum as far as design, build and weight...... the Z70v is just a better "mix" ... subtract a little of that graphics power and add a few little touches.... it's just better balanced in my opinion....

It really doesn't matter to me becasue the Z71v is still our best selling system and just behind that is the W3v..... The newest refreshes have yet to catch on, and yet for months and months and months people were all asking when these new barebone models were going to be out.

Justin, I know you are trying to get the z70v to catch on.

Thin and light has its own drawbacks like the heat dissipation will not be that efficient, with all those components crammed together like sardines in a 'thin' tin. Those extra few milimeters in a thicker laptop helps to dissipate heat better

I know z70v is like a thin sexy anorexic model but the z71v is a voluptious but better stronger performer [ ;)]

Well the Z70v isn't "light and thin" and it doesn't need to "catch on"..... The M6 would still be selling today if we offered it and really the only thing that slowed sales on it was sonoma systems coming out..... people just have to realize it's out... I guess thats about it.

But you're wrong about space...... inside both of the systems are the same..... the thickness and weight of the two systems is only different because of the matterials used...... Essentially the Z71v would be the same size as the Z70v if it were made out of carbon fiber. The Z70v doesn't NOT have 128mb card becasue it's impossble...... right now it's a matter of placement in the line and the type of person who would by that system as well as the price point.

I'd hardly say the Z70v is anorexic.... I'd leave that title up to the V6v... but again, essentially, the few changes in that model, including the lack of some ports (port bar and printer port) and the use of the super slim drive allow that to be the size it is.... thats' about it.

    Thanks,
    Justin

ahh i will love u when u put a z70v review up. i'm pretty deadlocked between the z71 and z70. the gfx card isnt a big deal for me i was i will be gaming on my desktop but i will probably do some light on the go 3d modelling on the laptop. i'm guessing battery life is about the same tho i would think it would be better on the z70 cuz the gfx card isnt as powerful, and of course i like the weight of the z70 better even if its only by a pound. the major thing that worries me about the z71 is the screen, i know alot of people say its perfectly fine but i've been using an lcd with my desktop and have grown accustomed to its flawlessness. of course it doesnt help that people who complain about the z71 screen only complain and post no pics of it.[ :(!]

Sounds like you're in the same boat as me Loaf, I am also considering the two notebooks and for the same things. I think im now going to go with the z70 just cuz the wieght is better, build, pretty much everything is slightly better or equal but the graphix card, which I probably wont be using intensively anyway. Heat was an issue for me but I dont think either will be that bad... (Hoping anyway...). So I think I finally will stop this maddening search for the perfect laptop and go with the Z70. Im also ordering the Z70 now cuz stock is running out it seems! Ill post a review of the thing when I get it (bout 2 1/2 weeks), I know how much I would have liked to have seen one! Good luck on your descision Loaf let me know how it goes!

    Cheers!

It does come out but i would hardly call it modular. Removable would be a more correct term. Upgradeable? Highly unlikely. :(

Yeah, just becasue something is seperate from the motherboard only means if it dies it might be easier and cheaper to replace than replacing the whole motherbaord. And PCI-Express only means it's got a faster bandwidth through the computer.

What happens when it down the road? Well, we'll see... but "upgradable" isn't the best word to use.

    Thanks,

Idantiva's pictures are excellent. He's right in that pictures DO NOT convey just how nice and sleek is the Z70V. Mine arrived, yesterday, and it's easily the best looking notebook I've ever had in my hands. It's lighter than I expected, as well. I'll be working on a full review for this forum, over the next few days, so stay tuned for lots more on the Z70V!!!
