When do you all think is going to be the best time to buy the S96J? I'm guessing its a fairly new product (as is the Verified by Intel) to begin with as I couldn't find any reviews other than ones on forums like this one.

I'm thinking It might be better to buy near the end of August, by then merom chips will be released and 1) The S96j will be cheaper to build with Core Duo
and 2) Perhaps I can configure it with a merom chip instead...

Then again I'm worried about not being able to capitalize on that amazing ATi X1600 being offered with the S96j right now..maybe Asus pulls em off the shelf? Or they discontinue em, perhaps stock runs out on em.

On a side note, do you think it's possible to upgrade the processor on S86js? Easier than other laptops? since it's a barebones/whitebox???

And lastly..what does this whole VBI do anyways (verified by intel)

VBI has 3 large ODMs.. Asus, Compal and Quanta, using a number of common parts (i.e screens, HDs, etc). Warranty of the chassis (and Im guessing some other parts) is covered by Intel instead of the above companies. The end product results in a very nicely priced notebook..

HOWEVER, a number of resellers including Geared2play, Powernotebooks, ProPortable, etc.. have expressed great concern over the direction of the VBI program. You can check some earlier posts by powernotebooks and geared2play to see why.

We actually have more S96J for late next week both in US and Canada, we can now accept orders for that shipment.
