I have an Asus F3jp laptop and an Onkyo tx-sr803 reciever. I believe the laptop is a 3.5 mm connection. Could someone point in the direction of the correct type of cable I would need.
I would like to do this for movies as well as gaming on the laptop. PowerDVD 7 has the options for S/PDIF. The laptop came with a realtek high definition audio program. I've never played around with the audio on a pc before so I am totally lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Technically, it should be fine as the Onkyo should take the optical out and use it. Make sure you turn on the optical out, as its not automatic. However, I have no experience, so I can't say for sure. I hope someone with knowledge can pass by.

I have the A8JP and I believe it should be exactly the same for audio. adangola linked to the correct items. As long as you don't disable the digital audio from the volume menu, everything should work perfectly.

Oops. I should have mentioned that you should have bought more than one adapter. I don't have the monoprice one, but I do have the Radio Shack ones and they are very fragile.
