Does anyone have the optical out from their W3J working in XP? What program and source must you be using? Are there any settings that need to be changed? Drivers?

I have a TOSLINK cable but can't get anything running through it no matter what I try...

    Thanks,
    ~ Brett

I definitely do not have a Realtek control panel. I'm using a "REALTEK PCIE NIC Driver", but that's the extent of their software on my computer.

My options, from the "Sounds and Audio Devices" menu in the Control Panel are:

P.S. - The W3J uses a SoundMax driver for audio and the Realtek driver is (obviosuly) for the NIC. I have the latest audio driver from Asus installed.

I thought that model had intel HD audio, my bad... you should have a soundmax control panel under start->run->SMax3CP.cpl

If it exists, the option should be there. I can't find a screenshot for it though.

Hm, do you have the driver package installed? Or are you using generic windows drivers? The control panel item should show up but sometimes it doesn't that's why I listed the name of the cpl

I installed the driver from the setup file in the .zip downloaded from the Asus downloads page:

P.S. - Yes, I see the icon for the control panel, but can't find the program itself...

    Reinstalled, restarted, no dice...

I'm gonna look for a driver from Analog Devices themselves...

The control panel item isn't there for soundmax? That's bogus... something is wrong. And I'm out of ideas... best of luck.

I agree - can someone else with a W3J confirm the non-existence of a Soundmax control panel?

If it helps at all, I did some searching and there are plenty of threads with missing control panel for soundmax, with no solutions that I can find. Barely any replies to the threads that I found too. *cringe*

Again, best of luck, sorry I couldn't help!

Edit: OK i'm sort of beating this dead horse now but is there anything under your start menu for soundmax, or is there anything under c:\program files\analog devices (or similar)

Maybe the app is there, but the shortcuts aren't... worth a shot at least.

I checked every pullout in the start menu and there's nothing mentioning Soundmax. Program Files has a Soundmax folder, but the contents are boring:

Searching C: for "Soundmax" and "Analog devices" only brings up previously explored entries, nothing new. Searching for "SMax3CP" brought up the icon (not the program) in a strange place - an HP folder:

Oh well, thanks for the help... I think I'm giving up on this again...

Maybe it's just a skimped out driver package... hopefully another W3J user can provide some info. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen a totally under-featured driver set from the manufacturer. Maybe bug ASUS support about it if you have the inclination.

Someone with a W3J please answer this:

From a quick glance, my W3J doesn't have a Soundmax control panel, or do I recall ever having one.

I'll see if I can find any info on it, after my exams. :D
