Does the s-video port in the back of the Z70VA just output video only or can you get sound through it also like a normal s-video hook up? I have many divx movies and i would like to hook my laptop up to the TV via s-video to watch them. If not is there any easy way to get both sound and video to the TV?

Just get a headphone to RCA adapter. They are like 2 bucks at Radio Shack. Depending on your TV setup, you'll probably want to get a Y adapter, so you have an in to both your left and right channels on the TV. Of course, if you have a receiver with an optical in, you can get a mini-Toslink to Toslink adapter (anyone correct me if I screwed that up) and get full 7.1 surround sound (well, not with the Divx movies, but with DVDs and stuff)

..... s-video is s-video... just like on a tv, it's only a video signal. DBF's comment about using the headphone jack is the only way to get video and sound.... If you have a nice home theater though... my suggestion would be to get an VGA to component video cable........ and a mini-tos to full sized optical.... and you'll have the BEST sound and video you could possibly have coming being transfered.

Yeah that 7 pin video out is complete crap. The video signal is horrible they may as well remove that port all together and the blue and red plugs dont even do anything. Speaking of that i wonder if they are audio?? Didnt try that but i doubt it. Do like justin said otherwise there is no point.

A friend at work i had talked to about this said it is 7pin to allow HD output, would'nt this give me a better signal then normal VGA considering I have a HDTV? Also would windows media center preform any worse then windows xp pro, reason i ask is because I have found a media center remote I would like to use with the notebook, plus media center gives you many different resolutions for HD and also many TV features.

Yeah, actually those 7 pin s-video outs are technically supposed to include a composite digital audio.... but I've seen them work and not work on different laptops........ plus you need to have the convertor cable.... I have one that a fellow member Valsmere gave me... it's interesting, but not ideal. S-video is worse than the video you'll get going from the RGB(vga) out to component..... and optical digital audio is better than composite digital audio anyway.

The component cable you can buy from ati however you will find that the red and blue jacks do not send any signal. The green does. Not sure what the point of that is but it does not support HD even though the 7 pin port allows is
