I bought S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and played around with the settings. Looks like the sweet spot is with Objects Dynamic Lighting enabled and with the resolution set at either 1024xx640 or at 1280x800 and Quality Settings set to maximum.

The Quality Settings don't really have any effect on the FPS, but the resolution and Dynamic Lighting setting do. Enabling Full Dynamic Lighting causes a pretty big FPS hit... and setting the res any higher than 1280x800 causes the FPS to drop as well.

Playing it at 1024x640 looks like 50-60fps... 1280x800 looks like around 40-50fps.

The visuals are pretty intense. I made a video with my digital camera, but don't have the proper USB cable to transfer them over.

Another cool thing about the game, though, is that the ASUS brand is on the back of the box and at the start of the game. Once you're in the game, the first character you meet has a laptop on his desk... you can't go around behind the desk to get a better look, but between and a little below the mouse buttons is a round silver circle which looks VERY similar to the mouse pad and glowing eye on the ASUS G1. Pretty neat.

I noticed that as well. In fact, I am pretty sure at a certain angle I saw that is said ASUS on it.

It is interesting. The beginning has been slow for me so far. I keep dying all the time from radiation poison and I don't know what to do. I keep playing though, it seems very perplexing, seems to have a bit of a learning curve IMO.

Yes, definitely. Single player is pretty revolutionary for an FPS, but there are bugs that need to be fixed.

Multiplayer is really fun imho, yet only decent to others (probably because they were expecting more. But don't expect it to become the next counterstrike or battlefield.

it isnt al full priced game, only $34 canadian, full of bugs, but playable, performance wise I have full dynamic range on with 1024x640.... was at 1280x768 during certain weather, but opted for lower res for all around good play. there will be a performance patch coming out soon to make the SP a bit better (the last patch was more stability issues, this upcoming one is performance orientated) and yes there is a G# (1 or2?) in the introduction sequece on his desk.

the MP is quite fun too, a successful spin off from the deathmatch usual MP

so for its cost, i would definately buy it (i did :p)

If this is how the G1 performs on S.T.A.L.K.E.R then I can't to see the way it performs on Dawn of War, and W.o.W and Simcity 4...I think it would be quite wonderful to be gaming out on the deck with the mid 70 degree weather hitting my face all the while starrig at a Karazhan raid :)

It's a really interesting game but not for everyone. It has lots of tactical and RPG elements in it but I like it so far even though I keep dying too. :)

I noticed the Asus G1 on the first NPC. Just come closer and light up your flashlight (L), you will clearly notice the ASUS logo on the LCD lid and the "glowing eye" just below the mouse buttons. Nice "Easter Egg" for us ASUS (particularly G1) users!
