hi, i am about to purchase a Asus S5N 1.5 with 256ddr
i was wondering how well games run on it? how hot does it get when you run games and how loud is the fan when your playing a game like cs? if u can run it
do you think it'd be even possible to run Warcraft 3 on it?

You will be able to run most games but don't expect to have any eye candy turned on. For eg call of duty was playable on low settings at 8X6 on my M2N (same GPU as S5N). But if gaming is important you had best look at a dedicated GPU. The sony s170 maybe a better choice for highly mobile gaming.
As for fan noise that depends on what you think loud is. I've come from desktops where fan noise was 40-50decibles. The fan on my lappie (M6Ne & M2N) are so much quieter that it is a pleasurable change for me. Others are more picky and hate any fan sound altogether.
If your playing games then you can expect the fan to run pretty much all the time, so its up to your tasts in noise !

I've pretty much narrowed down to the 2 laptops i want which is either the Z9000 or the S5N
for the same price i can get a Z9000 1.7 dothan 256mb ram or a S5N 1.5 banias 256mb ram
i am planning on using this laptop in university where i will beusing ti for some work and some play. i don't really mind the weight of the z9000 but i'm not sure if it would be better to buy the S5N just because the Z9000 isn't very popular.. i see tons of reviews and info about the S5N and S5NE but the only decent review i see for the Z9000 is at the tom's hardware but i'm still not too certain which one i should get.. is the build quality on both these machines the same? both made from the same material?

I saw both the Z9000 and S5N in person. The reason the Z9000 is not as popular is because I think it was just released a few months ago. If you plan on getting hte Z9000, I highly recommend you spending a few extra hundred dollars and get the M6N. Both notebooks are basically the same size, but different screens and video cards. The S5N is really small. If you have big hands, then you might have trouble typing fast on the keyboard. Spending an extra $300~ or so for the M6N instead of the Z9000 may sound a lot, but it really isn't, since you are already dishing $1000+ for a notebook.

i've got the S5N and it plays games a lot better than i expected. i don't play games a lot. however, i'm playing older games like homeworld, undying (games 2002 and older) and it plays them really well. if you're into games, the M6N's a beauty, a real winner. i just like having a really light and small lappy, my personal preference [

oh about the fan (S5N), i don't notice it. for me, it's virtually silent. i actually have to stick my ear on the keyboard near the fan to hear if it's on.

also can someone tell me which one of the 2 laptops i mentioned above is a better deal?
that would also help in deciding what to buy
liek compared to other prices
do i get a better deal with the Z9000 or the S5N?

I am leaning more towards getting the Z9000, but i want to be able to speak to an owner of a Z9000 before i go ahead and buy it
i would like to buy the M6N but its just too expensive for me since i'm paying for this laptop out of my pockets $300 difference is too much. RIght now i can get the Z9000 1.7 Dothan 256ddr ram 40gig HD for just under 1800 after tax canadian which is a good deal a S5N with 1.5 dothan with 256ddr ram and 40gig HD is at exacly 1800 after tax so i'm just having hard time deciding what i want, i'm not too sure if i want the S5N since i will be doing some gaming, probably warcraft 3, if the S5N can run warcraft 3 at a decent speed and doesn't have any heating problems, i would lean more towards that but one thing that i don't like about it is that it does not have a TV out but not a big problem for that. all i read about asus laptops are always good reviews, i would like someone that owns a Z9000 to give me their opinion of the laptop

If I were you, I would get the S5N. It will probably play WC3 decently using the Integraded graphics. Furthermore, it would be much more portable than the Z9000. However, the Z9000 would be compatible with more games, since it basically contains a Radeon 9000~ architecture, but is a more "dumbed" down version of the card. ie. 8000 3dmark vs. 3500 3dmark. Where are you buying this notebook from? I configured an M6N, 256MB DDR, 40GB, wireless, 1.5GHz dothan for $1858. Not including tax. Are your prices including tax? I'm from Canada also. I hope this helps.

oh i've seen the Z notebook. it's real nice! sturdy and all. good quality. you get a lot of bang for your buck. what're your needs? portability or performance? will you be traveling with it a lot?

my prices were after tax
i've been doing a lot of research on them.. uhh the place i'm probably gon get my laptop is from Cybraian Computers
The price of the M6N is 1639(+50 to include wifi card) and its only a banias but it costs $15 to upgrade it to a dothan.. and the rest are the same specs as yours thats 1639 before tax..
