Hi all,
I have been trying to troubleshoot for the past few hours but to no avail.
It's a fairly new machine (less than 1 yr old), and it was working perfectly until last night. Any help is greatly appreciated.
System:
- Windows 8.1, updated few weeks ago
THE PROBLEM:
- Big red "X" over the speaker icon. No sound. "No Audio Output Device Installed"
- Network (Ethernet) component disappeared. When I plug in the network cable, nothing happens. (wireless works fine)
- Power on takes a few tries, including removing + re-inserting the battery for machine to boot up after pressing the power button.
TRIED:
- uninstall, re-installed audio drivers
- Reinstall Network driver, but got the message "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug the Cable"
- Restored computer to a few days ago prior to the problems
- Started in Safe Mode
Everything else is functioning as normal.
I am wondering if this is a hardware problem or a driver/bios issue. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Sounds serious. Either the bios is corrupted, or your south bridge is failing. I would give windows a re install just to rule out windows being fubard, but when your boot up time is effected and your audio and network are both on the frits, that points to a motherboard problem.
